So the LORD said to Moses, "Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him. Make him stand before Eleazar the priest and all the congregation, and you shall commission him in their sight. Numbers 27:18-19 ESV
Are you aware of the challenges that await the next generation of Christians? Part of the calling of Moses was to look beyond his own role and into the future. Who would continue to lead Israel after he passed away?
There are ways you can begin to affirm others today, pass along what you have learned about following Jesus, and help them take their God led role among God’s people. Publicly affirming others can also help give them confidence among those they lead.
It may be humbling or even troubling to acknowledge that your own efforts and plans aren’t going to last forever. At a certain point, you will need to pass the baton along to someone else. Your faithfulness matters a great deal, but at a certain point, you will need to ensure that future generations learn something from your faithfulness and can continue.
Is there someone you know who needs your affirmation today? Are there ways you can encourage others to pursue God even after you are gone?
Prayer: Lord, help me to make time to encourage others and to build up the faith of those who will follow after me.
