Phoenix -- What is it really?

That isn't the case at all.

When I look at the visions of the Prophet Daniel, each Kingdom is represented by animal characteristics.

Fair point my friend, but it was my initial concern as the Pheonix is a mythical bird.

This is all I know.

The phoenix bird (also known as the firebird) does not show up by name in the KJV Bible translation, (see below) but it does show up in a Jewish translation of the Old Testament. It also shows up in the Septuagint (a Greek version of the Old Testament dated to the third century B.C.), Vulgate (Latin version of Scripture compiled by Jerome in the fourth century), and some Bible commentaries for Job 29:18.

The Hebrew word khole (Strong's Concordance [HASH=5255]#H2344[/HASH]), translated as 'sand' in the KJV, is interpreted as referring to the phoenix bird in the Jewish Publication Society Bible and other sources.

Job 29:18 (NKJV)
18 "Then I said, 'I shall die in my nest, And multiply my days as the sand.

Job 29:18 (KJV)
18 Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.

Then I said: 'I shall die with my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the phoenix;' (Job 29:18, Jewish Publication Society Bible of 1917)
Then I thought: With my nest I shall expire, And like the phoenix, have a long life (Keil and Delitzsch Commentary).

Hebrew Strong's Number: 2344
Hebrew Word: ‏חוֹל‎
Transliteration: ḥôl
Phonetic Pronunciation: khole

Vine's Words: None
English Words used in KJV:
sand 23
[Total Count: 23]
from <H2342> (chuwl); sand (as round or whirling particles) :- sand.

Vision of the beasts from the sea

He sees the "great sea" stirred up by the "four winds of heaven," and from the waters emerge four beasts, the first a lion with the wings of an eagle, the second a bear, the third a winged leopard with four heads, and the fourth a beast with ten horns, and a further horn appeared which uprooted three of the ten.
