Peace in Times of Crisis

[Through] the LORD's mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. [They are] new every morning; Great [is] Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV

As the prophet Jeremiah looked around the smoldering rubble of the once-great city of Jerusalem after the Babylonians had destroyed it, his heart was filled with crushing sorrow. He knew it didn’t have to be this way, but he also knew that his own people’s rebellion had brought the city to ruin.

Jeremiah had plenty to be grieved over. Yet in the midst of the horrors he sees around him, he’s still able to thank God for His love, compassion, and faithfulness. Though his heart was shattered, the prophet still saw God for who He really is.

How would you respond if you were faced with a personal catastrophe—the loss of a loved one, a financial crisis, a divorce, or a bad medical diagnosis? It’s not easy to keep praising and trusting god during very difficult times. But this is the key to persevering, to finding peace and comfort when it feels like your world is falling apart around you.

You can do it. Just start by opening your mouth and praising God for who He is and how good He is to you.

Prayer: God of compassion, thank You that in the midst of the craziness of this world, I can always count on Your amazing, never-ending love and mercy.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39

Give thanks to the LORD for He is good and His merciful lovingkindness endures for ever

Give thanks
