I would like to discuss some things Paul wrote in his letters to the church. Many of these are taken out of context as warned by the apostle GOD left the keys to the kingdom to which is Peter. Now since people are constantly taken Paul's letters out of context I will have to break this up into several parts. This is Paul's Epistles taken Out of Context part 1
2 Peter 3: 15 - 16
15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
This is Peter writing a letter himself warning the church that people use Paul's epistles out of context and twist them to their own destruction. It's amazing because Peter kept the law and Peter read Paul's letters, Paul also kept the law. So what we are going to look at is some verses people love to use out of context.
Colossians 2: 16 - 17
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
Many people use this scripture and say "see you can't judge me because I am eating pork or not keeping the Sabbath, those things are a shadow". Firstly we need to investigate this because Paul's epistles are written to specific people. So before you come to any conclusion let's check and see.
Colossians 1: 1 - 2
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother,
2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
First of all this letter is to the SAINTS. So I will let the bible tell you who are the Saints
Revelation 14: 12
12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
Paul's audience is towards people that KEEPS God's commandments. So Paul is speaking to learned people. You don't teach Calculus to people still in kindergarten. So if you are not a SAINT and you read Paul's epistles of course you will take it out of context because you don't have a foundation in the old testament.
Colossians 2: 4 - 8, 16 - 17
4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.
5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.
6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
Christmas is a tradition, Easter is a tradition, Halloween is a tradition, Valentines is a tradition and modern christians be celebrating these days just like any other atheist.
The context is simply this: Paul is encouraging Saints who keep the Sabbath, dietary law (Leviticus 11) and holy days (outlined in Leviticus 23). Holy days are Sabbaths and it specifically states this Leviticus 23. Paul said don't let anyone judge with respect to God's Sabbaths.
Modern churches don't keep the holy days outline in Leviticus 23 so how can you take this bible verse and use it to say the Sabbath is done away?
Saints are in the world and are outnumbered by individuals not keeping the commandments and they face condemnation because of this. I can't tell you how many times people have mocked me for celebrating Passover, Feast of unleavened Bread, Pentecost, Memorial of trumpets, Day of Atonement Tabernacles and Eight day.
No one has EVER made fun of me for celebrating Christmas and ain't nobody mocking you for doing it either but as soon as I stopped tribulation came my way. Now my father and my sister mocks me, not to mention my other family members who tell me I'm crazy. No one judged me when I went church every Sunday and Celebrated Christmas because that's normal by society standards but as soon as I stopped my life got rough.
My dad be like "you used to eat lobster and pork all the time" He be laughing at me just because I stopped even though he himself don't eat it. Anyone who departs from evil will get mocked.
Isaiah 59: 15
15 Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the Lord saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment.
This is true even today. This is why Paul wrote the precept in Colossians because Saints need to be encouraged because as soon as anyone depart from evil he/she becomes a prey.
P.S.
Don't worry, I know about Romans 14. I already know it's apart of the arsenal of people using Paul's letters out of context. That will come in later parts.
Hope to see you in part 2, peace.
