Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. Revelation 3:2 KJV
Today’s verse was a wake-up call for the church in Sardis. The people had played the hypocrite by acting the part of faithful followers, but they couldn’t recognize that their faith was on life support. They started their journey with God but abandoned it for something less amazing. Jesus was telling them that they were shaken, scattered, and existing without really living.
This verse has been applicable to Christians down through the centuries. The shaken want to please God, but they also want to do their own thing. They begin to look at their faith as something they can check off their to-do list, but there are so many other things they want to do. They set aside their faith walk for whatever seems shiny and new. They might even see their choices as God blessing them with things they enjoy. They are playacting—and don’t realize that’s what they’re doing. Yet when their actions are matched against God’s commands, they are shown to be lacking.
You don’t have to settle for a halfhearted walk with no passion in the pursuit. Don’t follow at a distance. Get close to the Father, choose authenticity, and love honesty.
Prayer: Father, give me a life that follows Your lead, does what You love, and adjusts to Your plan. Help me stand unshaken, honest, and willing.
