Blessed [is] that man who makes the LORD his trust, And does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. Psalm 40:4
When you get married you might think you've married your soul mate or the one who completes you. The bible teaches that you should never place someone on such a high pedestal that they take God's place.
This is true for sports figures, actors, business leaders, friends, and spouses. Yes, marriage provides opportunity for sharing vulnerabilities and building trust, but even as close as marriage is, it was never intended to replace the only perfect trust you'll ever find--trusting God.
When pride is evident in yourself or someone you know, there has been a shift in focus from God to self. When anyone chooses a new object of affection, can they be trusted to understand what's truly important in life?
God repairs the brokenness that comes with being human. Those closest to you are also human, so they need the same grace of God that you do. Consider them partners in the journey while trusting the One who repairs broken people.
Prayer: Lord, help me accept the love others offer, but trust the faithfulness You offered before I was ever born. When I shift my eyes from You, help me remember: this is why I should be grateful You offered to be available when I'm running the wrong direction.
