Therefore thus says the LORD: "If you return, Then I will bring you back; You shall stand before Me; If you take out the precious from the vile, You shall be as My mouth. Let them return to you, But you must not return to them. Jeremiah 15:19 NKJV
God had reached His limit with His people. He told Jeremiah to not even pray for their well-being because He would not listen (Jeremiah 14:11-12). Even if Moses and Samuel were to stand before Him, His heart would not go out to this people (Jeremiah 15:1). And yet, Jeremiah pled God’s people’s case anyway (Jeremiah 14:19-22), and God heard his prayer. You can read His response in today’s verse.
Do you have a prayer ministry that is anything like Jeremiah’s –one in which you pray for people who seem so far from God? Maybe even for people who have ticked you off or done something horrible to you or someone you love? God is slow to anger, but there does come a time when His anger demands justice, leaving the sinner in a dangerous place.
Make it a standard practice to pray for your enemies, for those everyone else has forgotten, for those who seem beyond the reach of hope. God may hear and relent, offering them one more chance to repent and turn toward Him.
Prayer: Lord, give me a heart for my enemies, the forgotten, and for those who have given up hope. I long for them to taste Your energy.
