There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you [are] Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Galatians 3:28-29 NKJV
Paul wrote the above scripture passage at a time (the first-century church) when divisions within the body of Christ—including between Jewish and non-Jewish believers—threatened the all-important unity within the church.
In the many years since Paul wrote these words, many have interpreted them to mean that God had done away with all differences between people groups. But his message (paraphrased) was simply this: anyone from any people group who comes to faith in Jesus is now bound together as one with every other believer in a wonderful group God calls the body of Christ.
That’s a heart bind that will last for all eternity!
God doesn’t call us Christians to ignore or discount our individual differences or uniqueness. Instead, He wants us to make sure that we never allow those differences to keep us from focusing on what binds our hearts together forever—that we are truly “one in Christ Jesus.”
Prayer: Thank You, Father, for making us all so different from one another-different in our appearance, in our social and economic standing, different in our gifts. Thank You also that despite all those differences, we can see ourselves the way You do: as one in Jesus Christ.
