Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her. "I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion. Proverbs 8:10-12 ESV
If you had a choice between God’s instructions for life, or a few bars of silver, which would you take? If you could learn more about the One who created you and how to have a friendship with Him, or a box of gold, which would seem more enticing? If you had a choice between making quality decisions based on God’s wisdom, or some hand-cut diamonds, what’s your choice?
You probably sided with the God choices because, after all, it’s expected, right? The truth is, sometimes you will seek to trade God’s instruction, direction, and wisdom for something worth much less. It’s okay to admit that. However, if you think this trade is worthwhile, God clears it up when He said, “All that you may desire cannot compare.”
When you struggle, be honest with God. Anything you accept in trade for the mind of God is worse than trading a brand-new luxury car for a plastic toy from a dollar store. There will never be a fair trade for God’s wisdom. Never an equal trade. Never a better than trade. Never.
Prayer: Dear God, may I never seek to trade Your wisdom. There is nothing as valuable and nothing as life changing as knowing Your heart and being Your student. Teach me.
