Hello to my fellow followers of Jesus Christ. I became a member of this site about 1 year ago, and have yet to really use it. This is a great place to be. I titled my thread the way that I did because I came to christ when I was 16 years old. That was in 1985. I am about to be 40 & I owe my salvation, not only to Jesus but to the band Stryper. I was a long haired, head-banger, who enjoyed the typical teenage parties & ventures into the secret hangout spots to drink & smoke. A friend brought this record over my friend Sam's house, the party house. He said that these guys are awesome. They sing about God and stuff, but they are a great band anyway. When he pulled the album out of the sleeve, I was this white vinyl record that was the coolest thing I ever saw. I had seen picture discs & other colored records, but never WHITE. It was the opposite of black. It was WHITE!!! Holy cow, I needed to borrow it immediately. That was it. I went to see them in concert soon after that, & the very next Sunday @ the church behind Sam's house, we were saved. I love a lot of todays Christian Contemporary music (Chris Tomlin, Lincoln Brewster, Jeremy Camp, Benji & Jenna Cowart), but Stryper did it for me. It's because of them I say... JESUS CHRIST ROCKS!!!:shade:

OK Jesus does ROCK out with the younger generation. Jesus speaks all languages wether it be toungs or rock n roll. HE gets' HIS massage across so we can understand. What was the name of the group? I dont have a record player but I use cd's. That was a very cool night for you my friend. I am glad you ROCKED out with Jesus!! Amen for that night.

i'm 50 yrs. old and i've been through the rock n roll era but when i hear that music now it dredges up bad memories for me. i went on a camping trip a while back that was youth for Christ, they had rock n roll bands there, kids dancing, though i knew they were singing for Jesus i couldn't understand the words. i went home.
but hey, there just my thoughts, whatever brings you to the Lord do it.
i recently started praying for the Holy Spirit to strengthen my conscience and He does. my dad told me that my conscience was the Lord, he was right. although this last part has nothing to do with your thread i thought i'd add it because it helps me immensely.

Hey, Mr_777, we are close in age (I am almost 41)...I remember Stryper well! I was a teen in the 80s and loved hair metal. Ah, the good ole days, lol.

There are some really GREAT contemporary Christian metal and rock bands, today as well. Some people denigrate Christian rock, but to my mind, the way the message is delivered needs to fit the one you are reaching out to. I love power chords! So I dig the heavy stuff. Big Dismal, 12 Stones, Decyfer Down, Kutless, Seventh Day Slumber... so many others. And they sing about Jesus and they reach me because they also sing of their unworthiness, their despair, and their ultimate joy in God. I agree with you, Jesus Rocks!

I'm 72 years old. I attend a non-denominational church that features contemporary worship music done by skilled musicians and singers. We have an eclectic mix of adult members ranging from twenty-somethings and baby boomers to a few geezers like myself. We are blessed with a quality sound system(we hear the words clearly) and dependable, knowledgable volunteers to operate it.

Where the event you speak of is concerned, I wonder about the quality of the sound system and the skill level of the performers. Also, I suspect that the young people attending didn't need to hear the words to sing along - they knew them by heart going in.
