For he held fast to the LORD. He did not depart from following him, but kept the commandments that the LORD commanded Moses. And the LORD was with him; wherever he went out, he prospered. He rebelled against the king of Assyria and would not serve him. 2 Kings 18:6-7 ESV
King Hezekiah was just twenty-five years old when he began his reign in Judah. His youth didn’t stop him from doing what was right in the eyes of the Lord.
The Bible says, “He removed the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles” (2 Kings 18:4). He even smashed the bronze serpent Moses had made—the one to which Israel had begun making offerings. His trust in God was so strong that scripture says “there was none like him among all the kings of Judah after him, not among those who were before him” (2 Kings 18:5).
Doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord can make a man feel like he’s standing all alone. And sometimes he will need to, despite the fallout he may face. But God is with the man who does not depart from Him and His commands. He may end up in jail or even worse, but the Lord will be there with him.
You should never compromise your faith in Christ, no matter how much pressure the world puts on you. Stay faithful to Him.
Prayer: Father, make me a Hezekiah—a man who is willing to follow You at any cost.
