New & Confused...

Hello all. My name is Elle
I guess I should put a little about myself in here...

I have always known something about God. My mom and older
brother would always talk about him, and my best friend danni has
been coming over a lot to have Bible study with me. Whenever someone has
asked me if I believe in Jesus, I would say yes, but I dont know much about him...
guess it seems stupid huh? Lately I have been having more interest in him, and
danni noticed and told me about this site. She said I would learn plenty and that
maybe I could even accept him...but it's all confusing to me...i feel so overwhelmed
by all the stuff i might have to learn about him. I looked around the forums and I had no
idea what people were talking about...I guess i have to start somewhere. Maybe
after a little more knowledge, Jesus might be something I would want..i just dont know where to start. I hope you will all be patient with me, and help me grow in knowledge and faith. thanks

I believe I know what you mean when you say
you really don't know very
much about Jesus and The Bible.

My husband was the same way when we got married

I will tell you something that really really helped him alot
I warn you, this is probably going to sound a little silly but it works!

If you really serious about learning about Jesus and The Bible,
Go and get yourself a Childern's Bible

I know, I know, It sounds foolish
but it can really help you get a quicker overview of The Bible
you can always go to the Bible and search
out more details when you find something
interesting that you want to study up on.

My husband did this for about a year
every night read a different little story
and now he knows soo much

I guess it kinda wet his appitite

Sounds silly I know, But it works!

In faith, one believer plants the seed (like your family in this case) and another waters it (perhaps, your friend danni and others here).

Deep down, our attitude may be one of active rebellion or passive indifference toward God and his ways, but it's all evidence of what the Bible calls sin.

So I read about how I can know god, from the link SpiritLedEd gave me, and I had
a few questions...I ask a lot, im sorry everyone...
when it says our attitude is evidence of sin, does it mean when we say we dont believe
in him, or when we are sinning in general? for example, is it talking about those
who openly reject him (atheists and other known religions) or those who accepted him
but sin?

The result of sin in our lives is death -- spiritual separation from God.3

Can someone explain this for me?

So that we would not have to die separated from God, out of his love for us, Jesus Christ died in our place

How about the people that died before Jesus ever came to Earth? What happened to them and did they ever go to Heaven?

Elle: The questions you pose have a degree of importance but, the central issue for you is this:

The God who created us and loves us unconditionally is perfect in every way. He cannot, therefore, abide imperfection (sin). However, we humans are born with a propensity to sin (our sin nature, some call it). That propensity to sin is a "wall" that seperates us from God. Because of that "wall", of and by themselves, humans cannot reach God.

But, because of His great love for us, God arranged for His son Jesus to come to earth and make it possible for us to connect with God through His (Jesus') death on the cross. We've been given the choice of plugging into Jesus, receiving God's forgiveness, beginning to grow and flourish as believers on earth and enjoying eternity with God.

That's the Gospel in a nutshell, Elle. So, the critical question for you is not "What happened to the people who died before Jesus came?" It is what are you going to do about Jesus? Are you going to receive Him as your Lord and Savior and ask Him to fill you with His Spirit so you can join us in heaven? Start the journey now with Dannibear at your side. Jesus died to save everyone from sin - those who came after him and those who came before. We have heard about God’s promise to save us on the Day of Judgement by Jesus’ death, and we are trusting that he will. In the same way, people in Old Testament times heard about God’s promise to save them by the one he had promised to send. They will be saved if they trust in the promise of the coming Saviour, Jesus.
If Jesus’ death is effective for you and me 2000 years after his death, then it can be effective for those who lived 2000 years before. It’s about trusting God to save us by the one he sends, rather than thinking we can get to God by ourselves without him.
We could say that they had in fact heard about Jesus before he came, they just didn’t know his name. It’s who he was and what he did that’s important, rather than whether we’ve met him or not (cos hey, we haven’t met him either!).
Have a look at this from Isaiah 53:3-6:
3 He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.
Like one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he took up our infirmities
and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered him stricken by God,
smitten by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to his own way;
and the LORD has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.

They knew what the promised one was coming to do, they just had to trust God that He was going to save them through it - exactly what we need to do.

And when we all die someday and when you accept Jesus into your heart,

When you genuinely accept Jesus, His wisdom will come also.
I asked a lot of questions to Steven remember?
But when I accepted Him, I found myself able to
answer most of my own questions just by spending time with Jesus
and talking to Him about my questions. If you dont have a Bible, I think
you do, but if not, I will gladly give you one Answers are all
found in His word. The Father's love letter is posted here on the
site, and I have it on my bedroom wall, when you want to come over
you can read it, and it pretty much describes the relationship God
wants with you right now. All you need to think of now, is if you want that
and the many wonders that come with it I love you Elle and I am

I would like to welcome you an glad you joined. I would like to share some scripture with you that may help you. This scripture has truly been a blessing in my life. (King James Verison)
It comes from Matthew chapter 7 verse 7 an 8....(7)Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
(8) For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth, and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
I think it would also help you to study verse 9-11. I want to encourage you to stay the course you are on. The Bible here says you will find what you are looking for.
