So you’re a wanderer! Let me say one thing to you. Whatever happened to you in the past that you think causes you to doubt all what you’ve believed in, remember, face it. Accept it and make the most of what you have. Make the most of it. You learn from your past mistakes. Go on. Move on. Forgive yourself. Forgive your offenders. Forgive your past. Accept its consequences and pray to God for mercy. Start all over again. Don’t be tired. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be afraid to fail. Don’t be afraid to start. And don’t be too proud to do these things. It ‘ll hurt your pride. But that’s the way it is. Do it, and continue to live. Love life. Live life. Be happy. That’s it! Speaking like he’s in front of a very large crowd addressing them. Sighing after speaking, he drinks water.
The boy was enlightened and was surprised about what he had heard. Because he thought that pops was just a bum with no knowledge at all. He thought he was just a none sense old man. He felt encouraged and thankful to him for the support. He asks why have you become like this?”
“Because I like it”, the old man replied.
“Why you liked it?”
“Here, you need not worry about what the people will say to you. You have no status or pride to uphold too and no envy to others. Here, you just live and think of yourself.”
But do you not think about your family? Your children? Your wife? Don’t they have any importance to you?
Looking the other way, he sighed and replied with teary eyes, “I love them very much and they are important to me as my life to me is.”
But why leave them? I asked perplexed at his answer.
He just turned his back on me and I felt the pain he has. In his mind there are many things, reasons for the pain. It might have been the rejection. Or it’s the sins he committed that affected them. Guilt and self – condemnation? Maybe, and many other things. But I really felt his pain and like him he has a pain too. He knows because like him, he had run away from reality. And upon knowing and acknowledging the pain, he has been blinded of the reality of life.
Afternoon came and after eating they rested. They were seated on the ground under a tree shading them from the sun. At about four o’clock, they started scavenging again for what might be there food for the night. They got plenty of plastics and aluminum and bottles and tin cans and as the sun sets down, they went to the junkshop to trade it for money and they went back to the lot where they were sleeping with food.
As night falls, the drums were lighted with fire and they gathered around it, the old man, the traveler and another middle aged man. The latter greeted by starting a conversation, “ It’s mighty cold tonight ey!”. Yes, the old man said. Looking at me, the middle-aged man asked, “Why are you here? You don’t seem like belong here.” He replied, “Just passing by sir. Don’t know where to go.”
“Well, me, if you ask me, me, he retorted eating his words because he’s drunk. I’m here because nobody gave me a chance to prove my worth. I’m a fast learner and reliable can de depended on. But they just kicked me and looked at me as if I have A.I.D.S. or an incurable disease.” Sure thing that when you’ve done wrong, they will not forgive you. You’ll be thrown out like an old rug”. He laments continuously.
