With the confidence and courage that I have because of God’;s Word and knowing that it is His will, I walked and walked until. . . .

(SHORT STORY II Continuation)

The community is just an uncomplicated one. An arc that bears the name of the community graces the entrance – WELCOME TO SMALL SPRINGFIELDS TOWN. The name of my town describes it as just small town with a population of about 7,000 people. It’s an agricultural neighborhood. The main source of livelihood here is farming, planting rice. But also others are into planting vegetables. Basically as a town, it gets its supplies to the town’s people. For constructions, logs, woods from the town’s folk. The steel and other metallic needs are imported outside of the municipality. Other dairy products are produced manually here locally. Husbandry and fishponds are common sites here also. There’s the town’s market in the center and across it is the town’s hall. Beside it is the hall of justice and around across it is the barbershop. Restaurants are scattered along the main road where the municipal hall and markets lie. There’s one movie house here where one movie a week is featured. And the folks here watch on weekends especially Fridays after a weeks day work.
I strolled along the main road and the day is just beginning. People are getting thicker and thicker by the time converging into the town’s market and along the main road. I just go and move but nobody notices me. As I pass by the town’s hall, the men standing by at the front lobby looked at me and I dared not stare at them but move on. Until one man called my name and came to me rushing.
“Aaron! Aaron! Is that you? The fellow said.
He blocked my way and held me in my arms. His wearing a boots the farmer wears and an over all maong like suspender. As I slowly raised my eyes towards him, he’s my best friend Willy. He immediately recognizes me confirming his suspicion that it is me, and embraces me tightly. I embraced him back tearfully saying to him, “Yes it is me my best friend”.
I missed you my friend. Where have you been? I’ve been looking for you the day I heard about you know?” he said. He continues, “ But thank God you’re back and you’re okay. Don’t worry about anything. The past is past and don’t worry about me about it and everything. The best thing is that you’re here and that’s it.” Come on and I have many things to tell you. The years that have passed by and I know, you don’t have to say it, let’s go to my house and you can rest there. And better yet, you can stay with me as long as you want.
We walked vigorously while this friend of mine can’t stop talking. He’s so excited and I can feel his sincerity and love to me. I was very touched. My eyes teary and I just kept quiet but I’m wearing a little bit smile at him. Finally, we reach his house about fifteen minutes walk from the municipal hall’s lobby. He led me into his dining table. Well actually, he has a small modest farmhouse where the dining and the receiving room or sala is in the same room. It’s so modest that you can go from room to room inside the house by a few steps.
“You feel yourself at home buddy”, he said to me.
“Okay, thank you very much”, saying it awkwardly because it’s for a long time that we never met and that he’s feeling a bit ashamed for he knows that his former friend knows what happened..
