Need help settling an argument

I asked my friend hypothetically... "What would you do if you got pregnant and the doctor said that if you don't have an abortion, you will die but the baby will live?" She said that she would ask God whether she should abort the baby or not. This caused an argument because I said that God would never tell someone to kill their child in order that they continue living and that by Him telling someone to do that that He would be breaking the 6th commandment and God can't do that. Her response was that God might tell a person to have an abortion if He has a divine purpose for that persons life. So my question is... Who is more right in this debate?

Thanks,
Jeff

I think a better question would be why start with these silly hypothetical's?- LOL!

Me asking her was a hypothetical question, but thousands of women are faced with this same situation everyday, so I just wanted to know what her take on it would be.

As for me, I would never have gotten an abortion, thus the six kids I have. I guess I would just be looking at it as, the Lord's will be done, not mine. The Lord would have to abort the baby Himself...we call that miscarriage...doc's call it spontaneous abortion. There is no way I would ever choose to abort, even if it meant my life would end.

God is in control, in reality, and in hypothetical land. ;)

I have always said that there is no reason for and abortion unless in extreme circumstances where the mother's life is at risk.

After saying that, it is a personal decision of the family.
For me, I would choose my wife but if she certainly insisted on having the baby, despite the risk, I would respect her wishes and put it in God's hands.

As a Christian, the doctor's opinion and, if you have time, a second opinion would be necessary for either one of us to make a decision.

Some times we have to make very tough decisions in our lives.
As a Christian we should pray but if you do not get an answer, maybe that is your answer.

God certainly can make His presence know in your desision but, in this physical plane, it is usually left up to you to make that well informed decision. But, make no mistake, as a Christian, know that God is right there with you, inside you. Rely on that feeling ,and then, make your best decision based on what you feel is right.

Finally, I say this with absolute conviction, either decision, while being totally honest with your self, either decsision will be acceptable to God.

Paraphrasing:
  • God's love for you in this decsision is unconditional
  • The ONLY sin attributal to man's spiritual death is unbelief
  • Therefore, there is no condemnation for those in Christ,

Has anyone heard of a story where the baby had to be aborted to save the mother's life?

I haven't.

God is a God of life, not death. He does not want us to kill other humans to satisfy his 'hunger'.

It does no good to borrow trouble on something that hasn't come to be.

I know for me that I know that this would not happen.

How could a mother's life be in danger carrying her baby?

She gets cancer maybe? I'd wait for the baby to arrive before I get treatments. Why? I've lived my life. I have NO RIGHT to kill a baby. It is a separate human being. It has its own DNA.

All abortions end in death. The baby's.

It is truly sad when the things of the Bible...the things that God tells us that we were knit in our mother's womb. He knew us. And we try to play God.

Yes I'm one that says at conception the baby is a person. A human being.

I would not want the death of an innocent baby on my hands. The guilt would be too great.

As many people in the world, as many pregnancies year after year, and the multitude of illnesses in this world, it is literally impossible for this situation to not have occurred, or to occur sometime in the future, somewhere!

I did a search on the internet. It seems that there have been a number of abortions done (about 151 from 1967 to 1990) to save the mother's life. That's about a 0.004% of all abortions during that time period.

As far as I can see, the reasons abortions happen for the most part, aren't because the mother's life is in danger.

Abortion occurs because the mother (most of the time I would guess) chooses to end the pregnancy. It has nothing whatsoever to do with a life or death situation for the mother. It is however a life or death situation for the baby.

If people do not want children, they could easily use some kind of birth control. The best kind being abstinence.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out, but people usually don't seem to care.

Life to some is all about them and who cares about the 'group of growing cells'.

It's a scary line to be where you compromise life in order to keep life as the adults know it going fine. I would deem it selfish.

Thankfully, God doesn't play the same way. He doesn't kill us off when we do something wrong.

To me, personally, abortion is just another way satan uses to get us to do his will. Satan is the master of lies and evil. He lies and manipulates people to do what he wants, telling them lies.

But God wants to help us and to heal our hurts. He wants us to see life as important.

I won't compromise this. Abortion is wrong and no matter what, I will not give anything to satan.

If we compromise this area of our lives, what will we compromise next?

There is absolute Truth. There is absolute right and wrong. Abortion is either white or black. There is no gray area. You can't kill a baby halfway.

I asked my friend hypothetically...

Strive to meet Jesus.........Your post would suggest that you have not had an encounter with the Master......... yet.
