Being deaf all of my life and being the only deaf person at my church, they gave me a chance to give a sermon and it was my very first time to ever do it. I did it on November 22, 2008. I just haven't been on the computer for awhile since I have been busy for Christmas. Now Christmas is over, I thought to share my first sermon I done....here it is.....
Is Your Lamp Lit?
Genesis 1: 1-4
God made the light, so Isn’t God himself is also the Light? He bring the brightness into our life, He shows the different between the lightness and darkness.
Even at night, God still shine light, like the stars and moon. The world can be dark but God is light like the sun, stars and moon.
John 8:12
Here Jesus said He is the light of the world. The world is full of sins, which is darkness.
Example of my life, I have depression problem. With my depression, I can see the darkness. As for darkness everything is negative and it made me feel and think negative which is darkness. The negative thought is like not begin good enough, trying to please everybody and I couldn’t, nobody love me, I am not giving a chance because people is afraid of my deafness, it is my fault that I am deaf and so on and on.
Those kinds of thoughts are like a thick dark cloud that I can’t see clear or think clear. As Jesus said, He is the light. I need to move the clouds and look at Jesus, the light. I need to focus more on Jesus’ light, which is His Words, the Bible.
I will be putting the positive thought on my mind when I read God’s Words. The positive from God will move the dark clouds of mine and I will be able to see His Light. If you and I follow the light, we will never have to walk in darkness alone. Christ’s Light will lead us into life instead of death, which is also darkness.
I Peter 2:9
God is light but He also wants to give us His light. He chose us to be His people. He is the one who brought us out of darkness. Shouldn’t we praise God for His wonderful light, which mean he gave us eternal life.
Example
Light – eternal life
Dark – death
Shouldn’t we sing of happiness of what God done for us? He gave us light and He is Light.
Exodus 34: 29
Moses had talked to God. God is light which shine into Moses’ faces. Why would Moses’ face shine? How do we get the shine on our face like Moses? Wouldn’t it be because Moses gave his life to God and obey Him? Shouldn’t we give ourselves to God and obey him too.
Now, Wait a minute, do we just do it because that how we get the light or do we do it because we wants it as he love us no matter who we are or what we had done in our life and knowing that God can give us a better life by having Him in our life, which will make us want to obey Him.
When we follow God’s Light. What does it mean? Wouldn’t it mean we need to study His Words, do what He said and ask us to follow Him, praise Him, pray as talk to him and sing the song about Christ as what He is.
When we do that, wouldn’t it show the light from God in us, wouldn’t it shine on our faces as we are happy because we let God’s Light take over our life and He control our life and keep us in the light instead of darkness.
Isaiah 60: 1-3
Wake up in the morning with God’s Light. Wake up in the morning thinking of God first in your mind. Pray, talk to Him, ask Him to show the light so that you can see and do His will.
The darkness, sins cover the whole earth. It is so thick that only God’s Light can cut/slit it open for us to live in His Light, as we ask it. Only God’s glory will shine in us.
If we live in God’s Light and we are shining through Him. Wouldn’t people see it in the darkness and wonder how you and I got the shine that came into our life in this darkness. Wouldn’t it show that God is the King and He is the Light that the brightness will come from Him who will start a new day for each of us? So just live one day at a time. Wake up each day as a new day, a new life with Christ.
Matthew 5: 14,15
God is Light and we are his light because He created us and we belong to Him. We can only shine light when we follow Jesus. So when we give our life to Christ and follow him, the light will shine through darkness. God’s light can’t even be hidden it can cut right through it. God want us to share His life with others.
I know that I have to keep my lamp burning as I wait for Jesus to come. Here is what I see and think. I see myself as a lamp. My mind and heart is a lamp. So where do I get the oil? What is oil? The oil is part of what we need to light up, right? Wouldn’t the oil be God’s Words (the Bible), the Laws and His life?
Wouldn’t I need to pour his oil into my lamp, which is my mind and heart? I need to fill them up everyday or you might say that I need to fill my lamp first thin in the morning. So fill Christ in the morning so that it will light up through the darkness of the day and night in this darkness world.
Revelation 21: 23
In this city, nation, earth, we don’t need the sun or moon to shine on it-us. God’s Glory is enough to be it light; He is its lamp, which mean He is what we need inside of us, as we are the lamps. We are It, He is the oil that fills up the lamp and His glory lit it up.
Proverbs 4: 18, 19
We put God into our life, which is like a gleam of dawn, the beginning of sunset. Throughout the day as we keep Jesus in our mind/life, it will get brighter and brighter as it become as a full day.
But if we chose not to have Jesus in our life and do whatever we want to do, we will not be able to see what really going on and we still keep on falling and tripping over and over of doing something that will not get better because we can’t see.
Which lamp would you want to be?
A lamp that has oil full up and lit that you can see the truth, have eternal life, have happiness in Christ.
Or
A lamp that has NO oil and not lit that you can’t see the different in truth and lie, feeling miserable and keep on falling down all over again. You are not getting anywhere.
Let us fill with God’s oil, the light, into us as the lamp, so we can see what is right and do it and give God the glory. His glory will lead us to righteousness instead of darkness.
