Peter said to him, "Even if everyone else deserts you, I never will." Mark 14:29 NLT
Scholars believe Peter was Mark’s primary source for his account of Jesus’ life and work—the gospel of Mark. This may surprise you, given how many times Mark paints Peter in a negative light.
Following His final Passover meal, Jesus foretold Peter’s denial. Mark 14:27-30 says, “On the way, Jesus told them, ‘All of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say, “God will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.” But after I am raised from the dead, I will go ahead of you to Galilee and meet you there.’ Peter said to him, ‘Even if everyone else deserts you, I never will.’ Jesus replied, ‘I tell you the truth, Peter—this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny three times that you even know me.’”
Peter promised, but Mark 14:66-72 tells how he failed. God is never surprised by the failures of His people. He knows the best of intentions often go unfulfilled.
When your good intentions turn into bad actions, you have to do what Peter did. Own your mistakes, then move forward in God’s grace. Peter didn’t let his momentary denial of Christ stop him from becoming the rock on which the church was founded.
Don’t let mistakes stop you from being the man God wants you to be.
Prayer: Lord, forgive my mistakes and help me move forward in grace.
