For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. James 1:23-24 NKJV
Picture this: You are about to make an important presentation at work. The owner of the company is sitting in the front row. The meeting will start soon, but you have enough time for a bathroom break. While washing your hands, you glance in the mirror and notice that your fly is down, your shirt is buttoned incorrectly, and a glob of toothpaste has dried on your chin. You smile at your reflection and walk straight into the meeting.
You wouldn’t do that, would you? If you fly was down, you’d zip it up. If your shirt was buttoned wrong, you’d redo it. If you had dried toothpaste on your chin, you’d clean it off.
The Word of God is a mirror for our spiritual lives. By reading the Bible, we should see the areas of our lives that need attention. So, when we read the Bible and don’t change the way we live, something’s wrong.
Don’t stop at looking in the mirror of God’s Word. Start doing something about it.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the Bible. Help me see myself in the mirror of Your word. Give me the will to change what needs changed.
