Miracles of Jesus Christ

Can I ask how you came to this conclusion? Scripture reference maybe?
I agree that this miracle may have helped in this area but I seriously doubt that it was Jesus motive for doing the deed.

I drew this conclusion from a commentary I stumbled across. One of the best ones I have seen. I know some people don't put much faith in commentaries. I like them. I read my bible so much that the commentaries are just an addition to what I read. There was that guy in another post on another thread who said commentaries pollute your understanding. But he was going from a Scofield's commentary when he wrote his posts.

The Ethiopian said something that really struck out to me. Acts 8:31 How can I, he said, "unless someone explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

How can I, unless someone guides me? This is the proper question of anyone who wants to understand the Bible. We should never feel bad if we need to be taught before we can understand many things.

It is glorious when we come to understand the great truths of Scripture on our own, but God always has a place and a purpose for teachers in the body of Christ.

How can we get more understanding from our own time in the Bible? To get anything from our Bibles, we must plunge in. Butterflies wander over the flowers in the garden and accomplish nothing, but bees plunge right down into the flower, and carry away essential food. We won't get anything if we just hover over our Bibles; we have to dive right in.

There are some commentaries I don't like.

The Commentary I read my understanding of John 2:1-11 from, pay attention to what is said in John 2:11 down at the end.

John 2 - Conversion and Cleansing
A. Water into wine at a wedding.
1. (1-5) Jesus (politely) replies to His mother’s request
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, "They have no wine." Jesus said to her, "Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come." His mother said to the servants, "Whatever He says to you, do it."

a. Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding: This is the first of many stories suggesting that Jesus was always welcome among those having a good time. Jesus didn’t spoil the good time.

b. They ran out of wine: This was a major social faux pas. "To fail in providing adequately for the guests would involve social disgrace. In the closely knit communities of Jesus’ day such an error would never be forgotten, and would haunt the newly married couple all their lives." (Tenney)

i. Additionally, wine was a rabbinical symbol of joy. Therefore "to run out of wine would almost have been the equivalent of admitting that neither the guests nor the bride and groom were happy." (Boice)

c. They have no wine: Why did Mary ask Jesus to do something? Mary was no doubt earnestly anticipating Jesus’ day of demonstration, for it would be a day of vindication for her. Yet she would not force the issue, leaving the matter with Jesus.

d. Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? Jesus refers to His mother with a term of respect, but He does not call her "mother." Jesus wanted to emphasize that there was a different relationship with her now.

e. Whatever He says to you, do it: The recorded words of Mary are few. However, it is good to pay attention to her words that are recorded, because they consistently glorify Jesus, not Mary herself. If only we would obey Mary’s direction, whatever He says to you, do it.

i. To deliberately go through Mary to get to Jesus is to regard Jesus as hardhearted, and Mary as tenderhearted. This concept "is totally alien from the Bible. It comes from mother-son ideas prevalent in pagan religions." (Barnhouse)

f. Some traditions say that this was John’s wedding, and he left his bride at the altar after seeing this miracle. It’s a pleasant, but an unlikely story.

i. Mormons take this idea an absurd step further declaring this is Jesus’ wedding. Of course, this against the plain meaning of this passage and all of the gospel records of Jesus.

2. (6-12) Water is converted into wine.
Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. Jesus said to them, "Fill the waterpots with water." And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, "Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast." And they took it. When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. And he said to him, "Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!" This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him. After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days.

a. Six waterpots of stone: Jesus began this miracle by using what was at hand. He could have supplied more wine any number of ways, but He started with what was there.

b. According to the manner of purification of the Jews: The waterpots are connected with the system of Law, because they were used in ceremonial purification.

c. Fill the waterpots with water: The servants under the direction of Jesus were in a unique place of blessing for this miracle. Jesus wanted the cooperation of men in this miracle. He could have filled the pots Himself, or just as easily created the liquid in the pots. But He knew that if the servants shared in the work, then they also shared in the blessing.

i. The servants did not do the miracle. Their efforts alone were completely insufficient. But because of their obedience to Jesus, they shared in the joy of the miracle.

ii. The servants were especially blessed because they obeyed without question, and to the fullest (they filled them up to the brim). This means that the miracle would be fulfilled in the greatest measure possible. If they were lazy and only filled the waterpots half full, there would have only been half as much wine.

d. Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast: This took faith on behalf of the servants. Imagine how angry the master of the feast would be if they brought him water to taste! Yet in faith, they obeyed the word of Jesus.

e. You have kept the good wine until now! When Jesus made wine, it was good wine. It doesn’t mean that it had a particularly high alcohol content, but that it was well-made wine.

i. Some go to great lengths to show that what Jesus made here was really grape juice. While some find that line of thinking convincing, it is not the opinion of the author. Good wine is good wine, not good grape juice. It is true that wine in that day, as commonly served, had a much lower content of alcohol than modern wine. But it was still wine.

f. This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee: This beginning of signs in the Gospel of John is a miracle of conversion, from the old ways of law, ceremony and purification to the new life of Jesus.

i. How did Jesus actually do miracles? He did them in many different ways. Here, Jesus did not say a word or blink an eye. He merely exercised His will and the miracle was done.

ii. Moses turned water into blood, showing that the Law results in death (Exodus 7:17-21). But Jesus’ first miracle turned water into wine, showing the gladness and joy of His new work. This acts out what John said in John 1:17: For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

iii. We could say that the water is like a relationship with God under the Old Covenant, and the wine is like a relationship with God under the New Covenant.

The wine was after the water, the New Covenant is after the Old Covenant.

The wine was from the water, the New Covenant is from the Old Covenant

The wine was and better than the water; the New Covenant is better than the Old Covenant.

g. Manifested His glory: According to John 2:1, this miracle happened on the third day. John is hinting at the idea that Jesus shows forth His glory on the third day, and that His disciples believe in Him when they see His glory.

h. His disciples believed in Him: Of course they believed before, but now their belief was deepened and re-expressed. This is typical in our Christian lives. God does something great in our lives, and we believe in Him all over again.

Oh,,,,,commentaries....Yeah. Sorry Ezra I prefer the Word instead of some guys opinion. But each to his own path.

To each there own but understand, what we are doing on the forum is making a commentary everytime we talk about what a verse may mean. Everyone who joins a facebook bible group and adds their thoughts on verses is creating a commentary. When we tell someone what a line of scripture means to us we are creating a commentary. Some people who really like to dive deep into bible studies like to use many commentaries. Look at your The Words we Speak thread. That started with your own thoughts on a verse. What is different from your thoughts and Scofield's, or Henery's, Clarkes, Spurgeon's. Romans a beloved book of the Bible for many, was a commentary on what Paul preached in his sermons. He wrote it to the church in Rome when he was waiting to go there so they wouldn't be left hanging.

I understand, my friend. I never tell anyone what a verse means. I only tell them what it says. grin. I quote word for word. Interpretation is not needed, I believe.

Jesus changed water into wine to show he was the Son of God to his disciples)

I agree with El Hombre. I think the commentator you took your view from was embellishing Scripture, not interpreting it. In Jn 2:4 Jesus asks Mary why she wants Him to get involved saying, "My time has not yet come."

I believe that the primary reason for the miracle was to bail that young couple out of a very embarrassing situation. As to the disciples, remember, Cana happened early in Jesus' ministry. The disciples did put their faith in Him, but, as newbies, their faith was weak (see Mk 4:40).

Jesus performed miraculous signs for (1) to show compassion upon those who were "skinned and thrown about" by the religious leaders (Matt 9:36) and especially (2) to show the restoration of obedient mankind to perfection under his rulership as king of God's kingdom during his millennium reign.(Rev 20) Revelation 21:1 speaks of a "new heaven", God's kingdom, and a "new earth", those of obedient mankind on the earth that submit to the "new heavens" as it's subjects. The "first heaven"(King James Bible) refers to all human governmental systems, along with the "first earth"(King James Bible), those who give support to these human governmental systems, that have "passed away," forever removed during the battle of Armageddon.(Rev 16:14, 16; Rev 19)

Revelation 21:2 gives more details of the "miracles" that Jesus will perform under his governmental rule, for it says: "I saw also the holy city, New Jerusalem (the 144,000 individuals chosen from among mankind to serve as kings and priests in God kingdom), coming down out of heaven from God and prepared as a bride for her husband (Jesus Christ)."

The everlasting benefits of the rule of God's kingdom are now described by the apostle John: "With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: "Look ! The tent of God is with mankind (referring to obedient mankind that is on this earth and not in heaven, by means of New Jerusalem applying the sacrificial blood of Jesus ransom in their behalf), and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

These "former things", death, mourning, outcry and pain (of heart) are to be permanently removed from the earth for those who are obedient to God's kingdom. These "former things" were caused by Satan (Gen 3) and are thus to be taken away, with God implementing a complete restoration of the earth, as in the Garden of Eden.(Gen 2)

Thus, Jesus will perform miracles for the "meek ones" that are destined to "inherit the earth" forever(Matt 5:5, King James Bible), that is "everyone exercising faith in" Jesus Christ, and not just passively "whosoever believeth in him."(John 3:16, King James Bible) These "meek ones" will enjoy a Paradise earth everlastingly, for Jesus told the evil-doer next to him: "Truly I tell you today, You will be with me in Paradise. (literally "park" [Greek paradeisos], (Hebrew), beghan-‛E´dhen, “in the garden of Eden," as found in Christian Greek Scriptures, Hebrew, by Franz Delitzsch, 1981, Christian Greek Scriptures, Hebrew, by Isaac Salkinson and C.D. Ginsburg (emminent Hebrew scholar in 1870), London, and Christian Greek Scriptures, Hebrew, by the United Bible Societies, Jerusalem, 1979)

Hence, under God's kingdom, "miracles" will happen during Jesus millennium reign, so that death, mourning, outcry and pain (of heart) are to be eternally removed from the earth for all of mankind who willingly submit to God's rule through Jesus Messianic kingdom.

right now my favorite miracle is the one that He spit in the mud , rubbed mud in a man's eyes and created eye balls where there was none. how much does that one act scream to anyone watching exactly who he is?

Science can not even tell us how a eye works , but it's followers believe they can dishonor the only one who created us and could ever fix us.

I was reading at a sight which was called " how come god doesn't heal amputees .com". like how ignorant and arrogant man kind is with out the spirit of God to reveal what we really are to ourselves.

Because here is the deal .. as best I understand it.
It is not that jesus can't heal amputees.. the questions much more so is , "who is the vessel who truly loves enough and which will allow that kind of power to move through their being.. His creation Power to move through their beings.. who loves not their life , their comfort at all ?
Because that amount of power from other dimensions and that kind of purity costs this dimensional beings a lot or maybe everything up to and including our very life.

The point is anyone could heal an amputee anytime they really wanted it bad enough ... but few to none will ever go there with HIM where He is in that place because it may cost you everything you love and hold dear now .
But it is so very cool how much he loves us and how He told us that and in every way he told us exactly who he is ..a million ways in his miracles, He screamed by his actions.
now if only we can love him enough to do his work, and to "share in his sufferings" 2 Corinthians 1:5
For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

Colossians 1:24
Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

1 Peter 1:11
Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

1 Peter 4:13
But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

1 Peter 5:1The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
/BIBLE] for mankind , no matter the cost to ourselves .

Where does Scripture say the man had no eyeballs? The story you refer to is in Jn 9:1-7. The first verse says the man was born blind, not that he was born without eyes.

well that of course it is inferred because of Genesis .
IN Genesis he created 2 people from the dust of the earth.
why is that a strange concept to you?
you didnt' see that before? doesn't everyone know it?
well either way it is a good thing to read it from cover to cover .. often even .

it is almost pointing to the fact that genesis not only is true as written and that it was HIM who did it in Genesis .
People had seen him make blind eyes see before and it was common . no this was something different this was a BIG deal . that time He made eyes with mud , just like He did in Genesis, NO this one told the disciples who Jesus really was and that he was the word that spoke all life into being and created us with Mud..
oh yes it is more than inferred it is deep and wide and amazing.

God created ONE person (Adam) directly from the dust of the earth. Eve was formed out of one of Adam's ribs (Ge 2:21). Adam is the ONLY person created directly from the dust of the earth. All the rest of us come about through sexual interaction on the part of our parents.

Gen 2:19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field , and every fowl of the air ; and brought [them] unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature , that [was] the name there of .

so yes technically out of a rib he formed eve, she was a few minutes from having been mud.
and he created everything else and that would of course include everyone of all of the criiters eyeballs with spit and dirt/clay and his breath/laws.

The existence of Spiritual Laws, underlying many of The Miracles of Jesus, call for a thorough investigation into cause and effect for popular consumption.

I have some preliminary ideas, for application, based on the Prayer Model as itemized and summarized (Matt. 6: 9-15 and 33, respectively)

Any suggestions?

Of course, God the Holy Spirit still performs s/w/m today.
And I am very thankful that most of you here are strong believers in this fact.

Perhaps some of you may not be aware that Jesus depended on God's Spirit to perform s/w/m.
One of the reasons the Word came to earth was to demonstrate how we are to live,
i.e. pray to the Father all of the time, depend on the Holy Spirit's power, etc.

For me my favorite miracle would be when he raised a little girl from the dead. I can almost feel her parents joy at watching it take place.

I cannot help appreciating Jesus' motive in eliminating all the sources of interference against the parents' faith, such as loud crying, wailing and even the unbelief by 9 out of 12 disciples, out of the house prior to raising the little girl from the dead.

John 2: 4 Jesus said to her, [SUB]d[/SUB] "Woman, [SUB]e[/SUB] what does your concern have to do with Me? [SUB]f[/SUB] My hour has not yet come." 5 His mother said to the servants, "Whatever He says to you, do it."

Sounds like Jesus had a bossy Mom who pushed him into his ministry before he thought it was time.
