Matthew 12:40

As a somewhat related note: 1 Cor 15:4; says "according to the scriptures" it is referencing....

Hos 6:2 "He will revive us after two days; He will raise us up on the third day, That we may live before Him.

B-A-C,

It's apparent that I'm not able to phrase my question is such a way so that you can understand what I am asking.

let me see if I understand the question....
There are 2 schools of thought on this; one takes the day before the Sabbath to be a Friday , counting that as one day (since the Lord was in the ground before it). then all day Saturday; until sunrise of the First day... approximately a 40 hour period...and counting that as three days.
The other school of thought is that Christ was crucified on the Fourth Day... the day before Passover; with the understanding that any Holy day... such as Passover is considered a Sabbath... there by being in the Ground Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights... and Thursday Friday and Saturday in the Day... 3 complete days and 3 complete nights. There is no mention as to exactly when the Lord rose before the First day, just that at dawn the Tomb was empty...
Now as I had mentioned when I first joined I am no scholar teacher or preacher...so take my opinion for what it is worth...
This is wonderful brain fodder. It is Totally irrelevant as well. It falls into the category of useless argument and senseless debate to totally distract and misdirect from the Blessed Truth that the Lord Died, was Buried and Rose Again. So while this may be an excellent tidbit tor intellectuals to scratch their brain over... it is not an issue to get all caught up in. Whether these occurrences happened over a 40 hour span or a 72 hour span has no bearing our Salvation or on the Truth that Jesus Lives!

milordsheep,
re: "let me see if I understand the question...."

As is the case with B-A-C, it appears that you don't.

Judge not is correct. The high sabbath was Passover. Christ was our Passover. Crucified on a Wednesday; resurrected at sundown Saturday which would actually be the beginning of Sunday.

miLordsheep,

re: "...so take my opinion for what it is worth..."

Will do, but for the purpose of this topic I'm not looking for opinion. I'm simply looking for actual examples which show that it was common to say that a daytime or a night time would be involved with an event when no part of the daytime or no part of the night time could have taken place.

Don nuzum,

re: "Christ was our Passover. Crucified on a Wednesday; resurrected at sundown Saturday which would actually be the beginning of Sunday."

That would mean that 5 calendar days were involved, along with parts of 4 daytimes and 4 night times.

Since it has again been awhile, perhaps someone new looking in will know of some examples.

Someone new looking in who thinks that Matthew 12:40 is employing common Jewish idiomatic language may know of examples of writing that show that it was common to say that a night time or a daytime was forecast to be involved with an event when no part of a night time or no part of a daytime could have taken place.

Since it appears that there are no folks looking in on "Talk Jesus" that are 6th day of the week crucifixion advocates, I shall move on and not cause anymore distress.
