Mark of the Beast - quick question

How is everyone?

I have a quick ( perhaps weird question ) for the last week I have been seeing 666 wherever I go. Just so i dont worry ( beacuse i feel its just superstition - which is idoltary ) could someone confirm that the Mark of the beast is only given to people who worship or follow the antichrist - which i clearly dont! Also I have learnt from my pastor that the rapture will occur before the tribulation occurs. There is no "school of thought" that the rapture has occured yet is there? I seriously doubt it

I have sort of same concern for this number too. Is it wrong to have the license plate that was given me end with numbers 666? That doesn't mean I accept the antichrist, right?

Superstition is a bad thing. How about we simplify the answer in one verse?

I think John 3:16 sums it up perfectly. If you love Jesus and follow Him, nothing else matters. GOD knows we will mess up, but His grace is sufficient. Do not let the devil fool you. He speaks his native tongue = lies.

The "666" was the "number of his name"
What that means is that in the Hebrew language, not the English language, each letter of the alphabet was also given a number.

As an example, John
J=4
o = 8
h = 15
n = 2

So the number of John would be 29
(remember "john" was an example and I made the numbers up to help explain)

So the 666 is the number of someone's name. Don't worry about it being you. You were saved and God put his mark on you, you belong to him and there is nothing in this world stronger than God and nothing can take that mark off of you.

I was given something with 666 on it one time and it did not bother me. I know I am not the anti-christ.

You have probably been seeing 666 a lot lately because of Halloween. Don't worry, that is Hollywood for you, no imagination.

From what I have been taught and from what I understand, I don't think the rapture has happened yet because I am still here. I fully expect to be raptured.
After the rapture, only sinful people will be left, and there are still some mighty good people left on earth. So, based on all that, Nope, it ain't happened yet.

Hiya thanks for your replies. Thats good to hear that viewpoint on the rapture. Its begun to put my mind at ease. I think i saw 666 on my oven clock! The weird thing is that it only ever displays 000! I guess maybe its the devil tricking me?! So i have nothing to worry about? I think not. On got questions it says the mark is only given to those who worship the antichrist? Is that the best way of thinking? I hope so cos then i can finally put my mind at ease? I don't know the answer, either, but I do have one piece of advice: Spend more time learning about Jesus and drawing close to him, and less time fretting about that 666 stuff.

Satan loves to use stuff like that to play with a person's mind. He'll exploit it to the maximum, if you let him.

I wasn't aware that there was any relevance to those numbers in the Bible at all. I was under the impression that it was a Hollywood thing. Obviously, I could be wrong, as I've not read all the Bible, but doesn't it come from a horror film?

Don't worry, be happy. It cannot be the mark of the beast until the beast makes it so. Until it is made so, 666 or any other feared sign is harmless, even if it will be (note the future tense) a nasty thing once he gets here. And of course he is not here yet. Revelation says he will take over the whole world. It is extremely hard to imagine somebody taking over the whole world without anybody seeing it happen. Even Pinky and the Brain couldn't take over the whole world and not one person notice it.

The Bible is clear about the AntiChrist, there aren't many passages about him, but it's clear for our understanding. As we can see the text in bold, Jesus has not come yet, the revealing of Christ has not occurred, the rapture has not occurred.

The second part of the text that is in bold says: And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.

Gladstone, 666 is in the Bible. Hollywood steals from God, not other way around.

The word “mark” in the Strong’s concordance means a mark like a tattoo but in my thinking, the mark will be more along the lines of what’s called the Digital Angel. They have been around for a few years now and are just coming into popularity. They are a small electrical device that is injected through a needle and put under the skin of animals to help find them when they are lost (so they say). After animals, they moved into the people realm saying that they would be good for old people who wander around and get lost and would carry all the medical information about the person so that if they were unconscious, the chip could be scanned to find out who they were and what meds to treat them with. Another use is to have them injected into the hands of children so that if they are kidnapped or lost, they could be found. The newest thing on the news a few months ago was that they have already been injected into all the kids in one school as a test. All of these ideas seem good but to what end? Now let’s go back to scripture.

Many months ago, I watched a 20/20 type program on tv where they went to the grocery store and filled the cart with everything they dump into it. When they went to the check out, everything was scanned as it lay in the cart and it only took only a few seconds. Everything had its own chip and was scanned electronically. At the time they said they could scan up to 15 feet away. That’s how I envision it will be with people. In the end times, it isn’t going to be just getting by if you can. On the news this morning, they told us that new cell phones were coming out and that the people you were calling could bring you up on the screen and know exactly where you were at any given time. Just what the anti christ needs, a way to track you down when you refuse the mark.

Whatever the mark turns out to be makes no difference. It will happen. What’s going to happen if you don’t have the mark, and what’s going to happen if you do have the mark.
Will you take the mark of the beasts to buy food to feed your children or to buy medications? If you are caught with no mark you will be put to death.

But surely God wouldn’t punish us for taking the mark to feed our children, you might say. That’s up to God but I find no scripture making an exception to what He has put into motion. And then God said;

9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

So, the bottom line reads like this. If you refuse the mark of the beast, you will be put to death, beheaded, and if you accept the mark of the beast you will be thrown into the lake of fire. What’s left? Accepting Christ as your Savior and going in the rapture is the only safe thing to do.

i used to see those numbers often for the past few years. Made me uneasy thinking about why i see it so often. It is in number plates. Guess it is disturbing at times. Thinking what does it mean to see those numbers often. Nowadays i dont bother. If so the beast comes in a global world wouldnt we know. Further more God is greater and we all love christ. Immaterial what we face we have to live by our faith. Even the happening of the book of revelation would be known.it IS FOR US TO KNOW That is why the book of revelation was written. Whatever happens we would know. The world being global is easy for both God or the beast to conquer the world. There is also mention of christ conquering the world. Believers will always be there. I guess the most important thing is for us to be prepared as christians for our live , death and heaven. For christ has said be prepared for the devil is always at work to destory our faith. when we r prepared we r not alone. We r together with the multitude of believers who live and die for christ. Our times r better for we can easily reach out in terms of faith. Our times r also troublesome because all the evil of the past has accumulated till now. For knowledge of good and evil has increased so that in our time it is hard to speak of how well prepared the christians r. But i guess there no point talking about the devil when our love for christ should grow and our lives should be examplary christian lives.That is the main purpose of christianity we live like christ and all the rest of the troubles would weight to nothing much as heaven is our destination by then. :shade:

I have a question. The earliest surviving New Testament Revelation text has the mark of the beast as '616'. This is from a bunch of manusripts found in Egypt in 1895. It was badly discoloured and damaged so we have had to wait until now for it to be readable using the most modern techniques (by Oxford scholars).

It was written in the original language of the New Testament (Greek). and predates the versions of the text as inerpreted and used in KJV. I know that Revelation is paramount to Christian prophecy and that this correction would cause all kinds of headaches for believers and scholars alike...there must be mountains of studies, sermons and writings that would have to be reviewed as a result.

What is the church's reaction to this? It surprises me that it hasn't warranted a mention amongst these pages. In fact, I am shocked. I thought this would have been a very hotpoint for discussion in Christian circles.

There are people who will argue over this until kingdom come. I'm not one of them. To me, the central issue in the pro and con of Christianity is what do you do with this man Jesus of Nazareth?.
