Have regard for the covenant, for the dark places of the land are full of the habitations of violence. Let not the downtrodden turn back in shame; let the poor and needy praise your name. 22 Arise, O God, defend your cause; remember how the foolish scoff at you all the day! The people of Israel knew that there would be conflict and evil. There were people living in poverty and others dealing with injustice and mistreatment. Yet God expected them to make their plight known. While those opposed to God sent up an uproar of rebellion, the poor and exploited were expected to lift up their voices for God’s intervention and justice. In fact, there’s an expectation that God will remember His covenant and act on behalf of those suffering the most.
God welcomes your intercessions today, and you can expect His care and concern for your well-being and the well-being of your neighbors who are in need. There is no surprise on God’s part that some people are living in rebellion and hostility. Even as you witness injustice and exploitation around you, find your hope in God, trusting that He will remember His people and work toward the good of all people.
Prayer: Lord, I ask for Your intervention for those who are suffering so they can experience relief and justice.
