Made in the Image of God?

You often hear some Christians say we are made in the image of God. But are we?

Gen 1:27; God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Well there we are, it says we are created in God's image right here. Is that really what it says?

Gen 5:1; This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God.
Gen 5:2; He created them male and female, and He blessed them and named them Man in the day when they were created.
Gen 5:3; When Adam had lived one hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth.
Gen 5:4; Then the days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years, and he had other sons and daughters.

It says in verse 1 here that "in the day when God created man", He made him in the likeness of God. OK, so Adam and Eve were made in the image of God. I don't have a problem with that.
But by the time we get down to verse 3 here it says..... Adam became the father of a son.. "in his own likeness". This was Seth. If we read all the way down to verse 32, we see that
Noah came from the lineage of Seth. So while Adam was made in God's image, the rest of mankind was made in Adam's image, starting with Seth.. continuing through Noah.
And we are all descendants of Noah.

Another thought that comes to mind here.

2Cor 3:18; But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

If we are already in the image of God, then why do we need to be "transformed" into the image of God?

Rom 8:29; For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;

If we are already in the image of God, we do we need to be "conformed" to the Image of Jesus (God).

Sometimes it's necessary to differentiate Jesus from his Father, viz: stop thinking of
Jesus as God, and just for a moment remember that he's also a man.

In that respect: 2Cor 3:18 speaks of transforming folk into the likeness of Jesus the
human being rather than Jesus the divine being.

OK, who else was left on the Earth during the flood?
Noah’s flood occurred in approximately 2,345 BC.
the peoples of eastern Asia are not descendants of Noah, nor the peoples of south Asia, likewise the peoples of sub-Saharan Africa nor are the indigenous peoples of the Americas.
Noah
Noah's flood was worldwide and continents did move, but it was specifically aimed at destroying the peoples of Mesopotamia and the Nephilim.
The rest of the world experienced the flood but were not exterminated by the flood.
By 1 BC the world as we know it was populated extensively by five primary racial types with civilizations (maybe not so much sub-Saharan Africa).
So are you proposing a very quick form of evolution?

2Corinthians 3:16 But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.
3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

Ephesians 4:22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires,
4:23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
4:24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

2Cor 4:6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
4:7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

1Cor 2:12 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.
13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.
14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
15 The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one.
16 “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

More than likely image as in behaviour, atitude etc, not necessarily physical appearance.

He was a man while he walked on earth and the same time He was GOD the Son, so says the "Original Copied Manuscript".

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.

The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own peoplec did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

Never let a corrupted human being define to you who your Father and Brother is in heaven! Let the WORD of GOD tell you who they are! Men are lairs and Your GOD reveals who he is to you. The way into the Holies of Holies has been open up to you! You need No Mediator to explain to you who Jesus is or GOD the Father. Stop believing these "Nominal Christians". GOD is not speaking through them neither did He send them to speak concerning HIS behave.

King James Bible
"God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged."

Stop believing these false proclaimers, enemies of GOD. They know nothing concerning the things they say.

"These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. With lofty but empty words, they appeal to the sensual passions of the flesh and entice those who are just escaping from others who live in error.…"

"God Sheep hears His Voice and they will not follow another" (For there are a lot of "Goat Herders"). Beware and stay on the Path!

That is just totally unscriptural and lacking in knowledge about the purpose of the Holy Spirit.
Yes we are to attain the attributes of Jesus as disciples (fruit of the Spirit) but we are to become servants of God and to live unto God by the power of God.
And anything that we do (laying on of hands, miracles through faith, healing) is only in and through Jesus as God, not Jesus as a human.

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. - John 15:5

He was a man while he walked on earth

He's still a man.

1Tim 2:5 . . There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, a man,
Christ Jesus.

The Greek word translated "men" and "a man" in that verse is derived from
anthropos (anth'-ro-pos) --a common word for humans in the New Testament.

There are a lot of people who do not want to hear grade school , "Bible introduction class 101" given back in seminary in the late 60 and early 70's. Because many did not understand it back then in the masses.

Do you have seminary training, I hope you are not faking and trying to decieve others into believing you do. You cannot teach where you have not been.

If i am wrong, forgive me. But do , you have higher learning in critical studies either in "theology" or "Christology" or "Reglious Studies" in"Theology Proper", and "foreign languages". And how to use a Hebrew Lexicon or a Greek Lexcon. and consult your Greek and Hebrew Concordance as well.

But looking up a few baby words, off the internet, and has become a adolescence field in "plaragiarism". For they of such has no "Original work" because they have wasted most of their time and hours in other things that have no "theological value". Now they want to jump to the head of the class.

For a lot have ignore this part of Scripture and gave no serious attention.

"Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say i find no pleasure in them"

Now as age hits one, people try to make up for wasted time. It takes time in "Christ" to get and learn what wisdom is. Some people are looking for "Truth"! Not deception! Not deceivers. If you was a "whoremonger" when you was growing up in manhood, tell us that what you was, and tell us how GOD clean you up and turn you around.

We must stop acting like we are "theological Linguistics Professors". If you was a drunk, a wife beater, a liar, a theif, or a down right "slander". Tells us how GOD, clean you up, wash you in the blood Jesus! How you became a new man or a new women in "Christ", and all those years you went to church, and how you thought in the church, and said prayers at night, and you thought you was a "true Christian". But then one night, or one day, or maybe it was one evening, a light shone from Heaven, Or maybe a voice came out of heaven and called your name and lit up your Soul. And you knew it was Him!

He did not have to say, with human words; that your sins are forgiven! You knew, your soul had been cleanse, wash in the blood of Jesus! And your faith came alive, You became a new creature, that never in your wildest mind thought such a thing or creature even existed, in this world. You could not talk fast enough, to try explain this event that had taken place. And all those early years in Baptism, church membership, bible classes, sundays school, church serivces, prayers, you thought you was a child of God. Some of us even laid on a dying bed in the hospital dying, thinking we were a child of GOD and believing that "Jesus is the Son of God" but just minutes away from going to Hell, I am so glad we didnt die. But grace and mercy stood by our bedside and among the dark corners of our life, when we were still sinners.
Until that day, night, that hour that God the Father bought us to "Birth" not by a woman but "Born of GOD"! Of HIS Spirit" a complete different Creature that had come from out of our mother's womb! Not fully grown but a new Creature that the whole world does not know this type of creature exist. We look like Humans on the outside, we walk like humans we, we talk like humans, we sleep like humans, we act like humans, But we are different in the inside. We are not the same! For they are like what we use to be on the inside. We are "Strange" people to them. Especially in "biblical doctrine", and biblical terminology.

People are looking for the "Truth"! You must know how to present Jesus.! I have just presented to you the "Truth"!

It is not possible to differentiate Jesus from the Father - Jesus and the Father are one and the Father is in Jesus - those who saw Jesus saw the Father.
As for your commentary on 1Corinthians 3:18 that is nonsensical and fallacious -
2Cor 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
Jesus as a man walking around Judah, Samaria and Galilee was not in glory - Jesus was glorified when he ascended into Heaven.
We are being transformed spiritually (well some of us) day by day to become eventually like Jesus in ministry and in the resurrection to come.

As for us 1Corinthians 3:18 is reiterating
2Peter 1:3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,
1:4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
