Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did. 1 John 2:6
This short verse is packed with a powerful message to those who call themselves followers of Jesus Christ. If you say that you live in God then it’s beholden to you to prove it by living your life as Jesus lived—and that means sincerely loving others.
But what does it mean to “live in God”? The Bible tells you that God sent the Spirit of Christ to live in your heart (Galatians 4:6), but Jesus also said, “Remain in me, and I will remain in you” (John 15:4). His spirit dwells in your heart, but you in turn must seek to walk so close to Him that you’re dwelling in His presence, bathed by His Spirit. This is truly living in God.
In the book of Revelation, John described some devoted disciples, saying, “These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes” (Revelation 14:4). His slightest wish was their command. May this be true of you. When you read in your Bible that you are to love others and have patience with them, may you strive to do exactly that. When you read that you are to love your enemies, may you do that.
Being a true follower of Jesus Christ isn’t always easy, but it’s what God calls you to.
