Todays Devotional -- Saving power
Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven.
Psalm 20:6

Sometimes it can seem as if the doors of heaven are shut and our prayers are
wafting out into space without ever finding their resting place. These are times when we have to stand firm and remember the promises of God that He will save us and answer our cries. Corrie ten Boom, the brave Dutch woman who endured the horrors of a Nazi concentration camp, believed totally in God’s unfailing love and experienced answers from his holy heaven on many occasions.

She recalls: ‘When I was taken to Ravensbruck everything in my life had fallen. At roll call with 96,000 other inmates, we had to stand for hours in the bitter cold. The guards would beat the prisoners and I could hardly bear to see it and hear their cries. One morning, as dawn was breaking, a bird began to sing. We looked up in the sky and saw a skylark singing its heart out. I was instantly reminded of Psalm 103.11 ‘For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him’. For three weeks God sent that skylark to sing through that dreaded roll call. It kept my eyes turned in the right direction’.

When we experience tragedies that seem ready to break us it would be good to remember one of her favourite sayings: “There is no pit deep enough that God’s love is not there”.

Lord, thank You for reminding us that nothing can separate us from God’s unfailing love. Amen.
