I always get so blessed when I read these devotionals and I pass them on to my Christian friends by email.
Todays Devotional - Wednesday February 14th - Shout for joy!
We will shout for joy when you are victorious, and lift up our banners in the name of our God. Psalm 20:5
For some people Valentine’s day is filled with anticipation at the postman’s
visit, for others it’s a day that they might like to quietly pass by! St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity, was thrown into prison where, legend has it, he made friends with the jailer’s daughter. He left her a farewell note and signed it ‘From your Valentine’ and thereby began a tale!
Any feast or festival day involves banners, bunting, balloons, streamers, flags - all symbols of celebration to honour the occasion. Today’s verse is encouraging us to enjoy and commemorate the good times. Celebrations are
good for us and lift the spirit; shouting and banner waving can be very releasing! I know for some of us our culture may inhibit this sort of praise and worship but David knew how to give extravagant praise to God - just read some of the other Psalms to see how he poured out his heart as he
glorified his Father in Heaven.
Joy is a funny thing - you can’t switch it on or make it happen - the joy of
the Lord is something that comes from deep within our spirit, and I believe
we can pray for more and more of it. The Holy Spirit can fill us with such
love for Jesus and our Father that we realise this is more than just a happy
warm feeling - this is real joy.
Dear Holy Spirit, please fill me today with a real, deep joy. I
turn my heart towards You and open my hands in the name of our God. Amen.
