Whole-hearted
I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. Psalm 119:10
Right now is there something that you think would improve your life? It may be a pay rise, a promotion, a new relationship, an improvement in a current relationship, it may be an improvement in health or a resolution of a situation that baffles you. You can imagine doing 'almost anything' to resolve it. Well take that 'desire' and imagine focusing it God wards.
That is what the Psalmist is describing in this verse. He knows that there is a homing device built within each of us which means we only find peace and satisfaction when it is centred on Him. Our appetite for God has been dulled as our spiritual taste buds think that other food will satisfy us. But we discover that deep down it is only God that can fulfil the longing of the human heart. Maybe it is time for you to seek God again? Or maybe it is time to seek Him more?
What has got in the way? As you seek Him, ask with the psalmist that you might stay on track with Him and not stray from his holy Word. Remember you work with God. Jude tells us to keep ourselves in God's love (Jude verse 21) and yet later says 'God is able to keep you from falling' (verse 24). God can keep us from straying, but we have to play our part too.
Dear Lord I recognise that You are all that I truly need and so want to know You better. Amen.
