Todays Devotional - Lip service
With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. Psalm 119:13.
Get some people started on their favourite subject and it is hard to get them to stop, especially when their favourite subject seems to be themselves! Indeed if you spend time with anyone prepared to talk with you, chances are you will find out just what they are into, by just listening to what comes up in the conversation.
It is clear that the psalmist is so excited about the Word of God that he can’t stop thinking about it and talking about it. In the New Testament we discover that this is one of the marks of a Spirit filled life and Spirit filled church.
Paul says: ‘Let the Word of God dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom’ (Col 3:16).
Reciting scripture inappropriately can sound false of course, and we need to interpret it in its context to understand its meaning, but Proverbs 25:11 reminds us that ‘a word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.’
Maybe it is time to be more bold in sharing what you have learned? Do it prayerfully. Make sure you really understand the person or situation you are addressing and do it humbly and graciously. Maybe there will be an opportunity to share what you have learned this week from God with someone you know?
Dear Lord Your word is precious. Make me sensitive to the needs of others and to times when I can share your Word with them. Amen.
