When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. And He placed His right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades. Revelation 1:17-18 NASB

When John received the Revelation of Jesus in a vision, he didn’t seem to know he was meeting Jesus until He identified Himself. Many decades had passed since John had walked and talked with Jesus. Maybe it wasn’t a case of failed recognition as much as it was being overwhelmed by the presence of the resurrected and glorified Lord Jesus Christ.

Have you considered how you might respond if Jesus returned during your lifetime? For the Christian who has been transformed by the Gospel, his heart sometimes yearns for nothing more deeply than to be in the presence of Jesus Christ. The troubles of this world are many, but they are nothing in the presence of Christ, the Lord and King over heaven and earth.

Do you live with the imminent return of Jesus Christ clearly in mind? If He returned an hour from now, what might He catch you doing? How might living with this in mind change how you live the second half of this month?

Prayer: Lord, may I look “for the blessed hope and glorious appearing for our great God and Savior Christ Jesus” today, as Titus 2:13 (NKJV) says.
