Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God's slaves. 1 Peter 2:16

On Independence Day in America, it’s appropriate to consider your understanding of freedom as it compares to the scriptures. In today’s verse, Peter calls Christians to live as free people who don’t use the freedom they have been given to secretly indulge in evil. In today’s culture, that can be a constant temptation.

In 1 Peter 2:11, the apostle Peter described self-indulgence as “sinful desires, which wage war against your soul” Bible commentator Adam Clarke says this about worldly people: “While others spend all their time, and employ all their skill, in acquiring earthly property, and totally neglect the salvation of their souls; they are not strangers, they are here at home; they are not pilgrims, they are seeking an earthly possession: Heaven is your home, seek that.”

To live otherwise is to return to bondage.

Evaluate how you spend your free time Make a list of your activities over the course of the next week and then total the amount of time you spent satisfying your whims and compare it to the amount of time you spent feeding your soul. You are called to live as one of God’s slaves. Do your findings reflect that?

That is quite a worthy exercise....and a good challenge to evaluate our use of time

Thank you for sharing brother Nick @Christ4Ever

There are two basic freedoms when boiled down to the basics. Spiritual freedom from oppression of bad spiritual forces and freedom of choice to do what we consider best for ourselves. God values both for us. The first we cannot overcome on our own, but must have God's help. The second one, God also helps, but it must be "our" choice to seek freedom instead of servitude to an immoral master(s), and we must work for it. To many people think the second must be handed to us by our govt, that we must be sheep. to the govt as the Sheppard.
Although we must obey "lawful" orders of those above us, and show respect to authority, we are not required to appease immoral edicts and indeed we have the freedom to sway our leaders laws in the favor of what is good and right.

Indeed, chose this day whom you will serve, in both the physical and spiritual.

@Brad Huber
Found it hard to pull my trigger finger on liking your post brother :wink:
Still, I did for in general I agree. However, I don't want to get too deeply into generalities.
For though the scenery be beautiful to behold. It is too easy to meander off the beaten path and accomplish little in doing so, besides getting lost to the original thought which seems to happen too often now a days.

Love you brother! Thanks for sharing.
