Romans;"Life in the Spirit".

In the epistle of Romans up to the 8 chapter the Holy Spirit has only been mentioned once, and that is in chapter 5 verse 5. But now in the 8 chapter alone, the Holy Spirit is mentioned nearly 20 times. So this is really His chapter. It sweeps you off your feet eventually and carries you away to glories in the very presence of Gold Himself. It is a monumental chapter and when read with an open heart and understood with an open mind can be incredibly enriching. And I really think that if you internalize the things that are here and if you meditate on them, you can ever be the same. I think it's a life-changing chapter as so many are in this tremendous epistle to the Romans.

Now it might be well to begin with something of an introduction about the Holy Spirit. If this is His chapter and if He is mentioned nearly 20 times and if He is to be the theme of it, we ought to understand a little bit about the Holy Spirit. And so that none of us in the dark about it,, let me run by a little bit of what theologians call "pneumatology," or the study of the Spirit. Just some general things to keep in mind.

First of all, a way to perceive the Holy Spirit that might help you is this. The Holy Spirit is to our spiritual lives what the creator is to the physical world. Without God, the creator, the physical world would not exist. And without His continuing sustaining upholding and preservingpower, the world would crash out of existence. And similarly in terms of the spiritual dimension, without the Holy Spirit we would never have been recreated. And without the sustaining preserving upholding power of the Holy Spirit, we too would crash back into the spiritual deadness from which we came. So the Spirit of God is the very agent by which we were given life and the very agent through whom that life is sustained. And also, the very agent who will in the end bring that life to full consummation ineternal glory.

Now mark it that the Holy Spirit is not an influence. [HIGH-LIGHT]The Holy Spirit is a person. [/HIGH-LIGHT]We never refer to the Holy Spirit as "it," [HIGH-LIGHT]we always refer to the Holy Spirit as "He." [/HIGH-LIGHT]And He is the third member of the Godhead, equal to the Father, equal to the Son in deity and in personhood, personality.

If you study the Bible you will find that: The Holy Spirit possesses mind, emotion, will. He knows the deep things of God. He loves the saints. He makes decisions. He speaks. He prays. He teaches. He guides. He commands. He fellowships. He comforts. He may be grieved. He may be quenched. He may be lied to. He may be tested. He may be resisted. He may be blasphemed.[HIGH-LIGHT]And all of these things indicate that He is indeed a person. [/HIGH-LIGHT]

And when you look at the Bible,, you find that He has all of the attributes that all the rest of the trinity have. The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit is eternal, that He is omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, holy, and glorious. The Bible calls Him God, Lord, the Spirit of God, the Spirit of the Lord, the Spirit of Yahweh,, the Spirit of the Lord God, the Spirit of the Father, the Spirit of the living God, the Spirit of the Lord, the Spirit of Jesus, the Spirit of Christ and the Spirit of His Son. And He is called the Comforter.

The Bible tells us that He was active in creation. That He indwelt certain people living in the Old Testament period for special empowering. That He convicts men, that He enables men to serve God, that He is the agent by which the Scriptures were written, that in the life of Christ, for example, He was involved in His birth, in His baptism, His temptation, His anointing, His teaching, His miracles, His death and His resurrection. That in the world, the Holy Spirit is involved in convicting men of sin, in calling men to Himself,, and as well, calling men into service. He is involved in witnessing to the testimony of Christ. He is involved in regenerating or bringing about the new birth.

And the Bible tells us that in the case of the believer, the Holy Spirit is engaged in glorifying Christ in the life of a believer. He indwells the believer. He fills the believer. He imparts to the believer the fruit of the Spirit. He imparts to the believer the gifts of the Spirit. He seals, communes, fellowships with, teaches, prays, wars with the flesh, comforts, prays for, sanctifies, empowers for service. It goes on and on.[HIGH-LIGHT]In every sense, fulfilling the role of God in a very special way is the third person of the trinity[/HIGH-LIGHT].

Amen

As a logical minded person reading the Bible, I try to allow the Bible to interpret itself. Now when it comes to understanding the nature of the holy spirit, is it a person or God's force of will, read these following points and please explain to me how these clearly show how the holy spirit is a person.

No. 1, When Mary, the mother of Jesus, visited her cousin Elizabeth, the Bible says that the unborn child in Elizabeth’s womb leaped, "and Elizabeth was filled with holy spirit." (Luke 1:41) Is it logical for a person to be "filled" with another person, if so how?

No. 2, When John the Baptizer spoke to his disciples about Jesus as the one who would succeed him, John said: "I, for my part, baptize you with water . . . , but the one coming after me is stronger than I am, whose sandals I am not fit to take off. That one will baptize you people with holy spirit." (Matthew 3:11) Logically speaking, if the holy spirit is a person, how could that person be used to baptize people, if so how?

No. 3, While visiting a Roman army officer and his family, the apostle Peter spoke of Jesus as having been anointed by God "with holy spirit and power." (Acts 10:38) Shortly afterward, "the holy spirit fell upon" the army officer’s household. The account says that many were amazed "because the free gift of the holy spirit was being poured out also upon people of the nations." (Acts 10:44, 45) Here again, the terms used to describe the holy spirit are inconsistent with the idea of the holy spirit being a person. The holy spirit cannot be both a person and God's force of will. It seams to me the Bible says the holy spirit is God's force of will which imparts to the believer the fruitage of the holy spirit, the gifts of the spirit, and is used to comfort and encourage.

Understanding your point here, it seems you dont believe Jesus the Christ and Son of God the Father is a person either or you do not believe that Jesus lives in us one or the other. So what is Jesus to you?

To jiggyfly. I do believe Jesus is the Christ and Son of God, but is it Jesus who dwells in us?

Clearly, the Bible shows the holy spirit can and does dwell within God's chosen people, but can Jesus, split himself up and dwell within millions of human bodies, in fact is Jesus the same nature as the holy spirit? You might raise your eyes at such a notion, but remember what Jesus himself said at Matthew 12:31, 32, (ANIV): "And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come." Now if Jesus and the holy spirit are the same, that means this verse contradicts itself. Would you not agree this verse clearly indicates they are not the same nature. Clearly, Jesus is the Son of God, the Saviour of all humankind, but if the holy spirit is Gods active will or force that dwells in people then this scripture does make sense, would you not agree!

Brother you getting something very important wrong here, the holy spirit is a PERSON,everything you qouted fromthe word just shows some of the ways in which the Holy spirit can manifest himself as e.g. Water, Wind, Fire, Dove. The Father is a Person and Jesus is a Person and they are all one. Now you might say that doesnt logically make sense right? But its not suppose to make logical sense! We cant use logic to understand an ALMIGHTY God, who is a trinity. That is why its gonna take us an eternity to know God. The holy spirit is not a force but a person and heres proof in the word,

"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, (HE) shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatever I have said to you."John 14:26... HE is not used if not refering to a person

"Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send (HIM) to you."John 16:7...HIM is not used if not refering to a person

"Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost."Matthew 1:18 ..This shows You that the Holy spirit is as much God as God the Father is. Here you see it says Jesus our lord and saviour was fathered by who? ..THE PERSON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. Remember Jesus is the son of God!

Brother there is so much more scriptures but for the sake of time i recommend you get more deeper in the word and you will see that the Holy Spirit is a PERSON and is Almighty God the most high.

"And the angel answered and said to her, The Holy Ghost shall come on you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of you shall be called the Son of God."Luke 1:35

God Bless ya
