I find this to be a very interesting topic, simply because it raised a lot of questions. Most people believe, all good people go to heaven and all bad people will go to hell. But if you take a careful look at what the bible says the kingdom is and what it will do, it tends to change common perceptions of heaven and hell.
So, what is this kingdom Jesus asked us to pray for in the lords pray in Matthew 6:10. Daniel 2:44, (NASB) prophesied: "In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, and that kingdom will not be left for another people; it will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, but it will itself endure forever." Then Daniel was given a vision of this kingdoms ruler, in Daniel 7:13, 14, (NASB): "I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven, One like a Son of Man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days, And was presented before Him. And to Him was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, That all the peoples, nations and men of every language Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away; And His kingdom is one, Which will not be destroyed." (Isaiah 9:6, 7) Clearly Jesus is the King of this kingdom, but notice what it rules over!
Revelation 5:9, 10, (NASB) say: "And they sang a new song, saying, Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth." This shows Jesus will rule over the earth and those taken to heaven will rule with him over the earth, once man made governments have been destroyed. (Revelation 20:4, 5)
Further more, notice what the bible says Jesus does when he starts ruling over the earth in Revelation 20:2, 3, (NASB): "And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time." This shows Jesus and his co-rulers will rule over the earth for one thousand years! There are many millennial prophecies that refer to what will happen on the earth during this time. Here are just some of them. Psalms 46:8, 9, (NASB) says: "Come, behold the works of the LORD, Who has wrought desolations in the earth. He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariots with fire." Psalms 110:5, (NASB) says: "The Lord is at Your right hand; He will shatter kings in the day of His wrath." Isaiah 65:21-25, says: "They will build houses and inhabit them; They will also plant vineyards and eat their fruit. "They will not build and another inhabit, They will not plant and another eat; For as the lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people, And My chosen ones will wear out the work of their hands. "They will not labor in vain, Or bear children for calamity; For they are the offspring of those blessed by the LORD, And their descendants with them. "It will also come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear. "The wolf and the lamb will graze together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox; and dust will be the serpent's food. They will do no evil or harm in all My holy mountain," says the LORD."
But this begs the question, "who" are still alive on the earth? Why were they not destroyed at Armageddon or taken to heaven, and clearly they must be faithful people because they are subjects loyal to Jesus' kingship, which Jesus rules and protects them. Also, at the end of this one thousand years, Satan is let out of a prison to mislead mankind, who clearly are not at this time mislead and still loyal to Jesus and his kingship. Revelation 20:7-10, shows Satan misleads so many that he starts a great war that encompasses the whole earth.
So, if people who are faithful go to heaven to become kings and rule over this earth, who are these faithful people left on the earth, who are tested by Satan, and which sadly many do seam to turn against Jesus as their King at the end of the thousand years.
PS. Why do people say the earth is going to be destroyed when Jesus returns, when clearly the bible says otherwise?
