And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. Acts 1:9 ESV

Did you know the Church at large celebrates Ascension Day? This has been true from ancient times across the Roman Empire and beyond. Ascension Day now is typically celebrated thirty-nine days (on Thursday), forty days (Friday), or forty-two days (Sunday) after Easter. Yes, this diversity of dates can be a bit confusing. Then again, the answer isn’t to ignore or forget Ascension Day as millions did recently. Just the opposite!

Descension Day. This is much better known as Christmas, the day God’s Son, Jesus Christ, entered human history as true God (eternally) and now true man (forever from that point). Like Ascension day, Christmas is celebrated on three different dates, varying by nation and denomination. The important thing is to celebrate this wonderful day every year!

Ascension Day. Yes, perhaps it could use a better name. It’s the day God’s Son, Jesus Christ, ascended from earth back to heaven, where He now sits at the right hand of the throne of God the Father, ever interceding for you. As a result, you receive many good gifts from heaven (Matthew 7:11, Luke 11:13, Ephesians 4:8-10, and James 1:17). Like Christmas, this should be greatly celebrated!

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Descension Day and for Ascension Day. What great days for rejoicing!
