Lessons from the Prodigal Son

Most of us know the story of the Prodigal Son. He took what was his before he was mature enough to appreciate it. He wasted it all in an attempt to satisfy his carnal appetite. He lost everything during hard times, and found out the hard way that his 'friends' were just using him for his money. And finally he ended up at the bottom of the barrel, literally, as he lay with the pigs in the pen and considered eating their slop!

What a parable, and how true it has played out in so many lives. In fact, all of us have lived this out to one degree or another... But here is my point. This rich, young fool may have lost all his money, but he gained some valuable wisdom in the process. In Luke 15:17 Jesus tells us, "When he came to his senses..." You see, the rest of the story - His return home, his brokenness and repentance, his father's forgiveness, and even his amazing restoration to position and power. All these came as a result of his realization of his sin.

The prodigal son realized his condition, repented of his sin, and returned back to his father. YES, it's that simple! No matter how far you've gone; no matter what you've done; no matter how much you've wasted; God the Father is watching and waiting for your return. In the meantime He will do whatever it takes to get you to come to your senses.

Remember, we are all children of God, and we have all wandered away like silly sheep, but even now I hear the voice of the Father saying, "Come, let us reason together. Though your sins be red as scarlet, they will be white as snow." (Is 1:18) God be with you all...

"When he came to himself" I like the words of the K.J. "came to himself". I for one need to come to myself more often. It is so easy to look at others, and we all do it, what are they doing, how are they getting along....etc. When I "come to myself" I find that I am coming to the chap who can get things done! After it is I needing the help. MmMm


To come to "ones self" is a good thing and generally productive. Certainly in my case. I may have looked at a particular situation for a while, may have even made some sort of a start. Then backed off protesting that it is too difficult for me.

Again I "come to myself" saying, I need to move on that, it has been hanging around long enough, time it was completed and tidied up.

It can be like that with Jesus, We are aware that the situation needs attention. But we put it off. In spiritual things it is always best to act quickly, to "come to one's self" to help one's self. to see reality and make a positive move toward God.

He is waiting.....watching......longing for you to return to him
