For we are about to destroy this place, because the outcry against its people has become great before the LORD, and the LORD has sent us to destroy it." Genesis 19:13 ESV

God told Abraham about His plan to destroy two cities. God could no longer endure the law-breaking sin committed in Sodom and Gomorrah. God is the greatest example of endurance, but He cannot endure sin forever.

Abraham’s nephew Lot lived in Sodom with his family. They were told to leave before the city was destroyed.

Does this sound cruel? You should know that Abraham pleaded with God to save the twin cities if ten righteous people lived there. God agreed, but they didn’t exist.

You might witness injustice and wonder when God will step in and set things right. God prefers mercy when most think justice should blaze. Jesus paid the price for sin. When mankind accepts the opportunity to become right with God, then justice waits a little longer. God wants everyone to accept His rescue. He’s been willing to endure the slander, disbelief, and ridicule—though He’s never deserved it.

Choose to walk away from a lifestyle defined by disobedience. God wants to adopt you into His family rather than see sin destroy you. He longs for sinners to discover a Savior.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for mercy. I’m grateful for Your patience. Help me show my appreciation by showing mercy to those I think deserve justice. It’s what You’ve done for me.
