Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! For God [is] the King of all the earth; Sing praises with understanding. Psalm 47:6-7 NKJV
The Psalms are filled with encouragements to praise God by lifting our voices and singing. That includes the two verses above, which encourage readers to sign to Him no fewer than five times!
But the Psalms aren’t the only place in the Bible that encourages believers to sing praises to God. In the New Testament, the apostle Paul enjoins Christians to “be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sign and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:18-20).
Clearly, God likes it when we sing praises to Him!
So even if you don’t think you can carry a tune, sign praises to God every chance you get. Sing in the Sunday worship service, in your car on the way to work, on the golf course…anywhere you can draw air, just open your heart, lift your voice, and sing out praises to the Lord!
Prayer: Glorious Father, thank You for the gift of song. May I never waste an opportunity to open my mouth and sign songs of praise to You.
