Joseph.....forgotten

"A new king arose over Egypt, who did not know of Joseph." (Exodus 1:8)

Is it really possible that anyone - let alone a king - would be unaware of all that Joseph had done for the country? How could anyone in Egypt ever forget the vital role he played its survival?

Joseph, as second in command and sole architect of making Egypt the richest country on Earth, should have been immortalized for eternity.
It defies logic that anyone could forget the one person who single-handedly saved Egypt and the entire world from famine.

Joseph wasn't forgotten in the sense that no one "remembered" him. Rather, the significance of his life-saving contributions had simply faded from everyone's memory.

Joseph's insights and acumen clearly saved the lives of every man, women, and child. But as soon as the necessity of his contributions were no longer needed, then the appreciation for Joseph ceased as well. When the pain of Egypt's experience ended, so did their memory of Joseph.

During the massive famine that spread throughout the entire world, Joseph was at the center of it all. Every country was dependent upon Egypt for their survival. But when the famine ended, then Joseph's help was no longer valuable or even needed.
And, over time, the mental leap that someone makes from when a person's contributions are no longer needed and the memory of when they were so desperately needed becomes smaller and smaller. And after an entire generation passed away, the people in Egypt simply did not know of Joseph.

Difficult to imagine? ........It actually occurs in our own lives all the time. Think about it. There are people who have helped you enormously in the past in one way or another. And when they gave you their assistance - whatever it might have been - you certainly expressed your gratitude. But as time went on,.......... it's just not natural to continue to shower the person with appreciation and gratitude.

But this doesn't mean that you can't let them know "out of the blue" once again just how much you appreciate what they did for you. Saying "thank you" to the person long after they've given you their help, is such a beautiful and selfless way to live. And the recipient will appreciate it beyond words.

It is very easy to forget people who were there for us, because once their assistance is no longer needed, our appreciation for what they did can easily fade away. And as more and more time passes, we can actually completely forget those people who were there for us when we needed them the most.

It's not that hard to show appreciation toward someone right after he's helped you. But the true measure of a person is not demonstrated by the gratitude you show a person after he's helped you.
Rather, the measure of a person is demonstrated by the heartfelt gratitude he can still show long after the fact. True gratitude is not defined by a person who doesn't forget; it's defined by the one who always remembers.

Can I hear an Amen?

The Lord commanded us to break the bread together as often as possible lest we forget that He died for us. He desires that 2000yrs later we are still to remember His Redemptive work upon the cross. Appreciating Him with that freshness of our love, as though the mighty Savation he bought happened only yesterday.

Thanks for the good message brother. We need to always remember Jesus Christ's redemptive work for us.

Psalm 119:55
I remember Your name in the night, O LORD,And I keep Your law.

Yes you can get an AMEN!

It's true the Living God's favor was upon Joseph-and he became great and well known in all the earth. We do need to remember the Lamb's sacrifice for us all, and also our main DUTY for a lack or words to WIN SOULS FOR HIM-he is worthy.

It was the nation of Israel, who lamenting, said these words. "If I forget thee O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth.........Ps 137
How much more we, knowing Jesus, should echo the sentiments. Let my right hand(my strength) forget its cunning, my tongue (be silent) should I forget thee. My Saviour.
Perish the thought. Let us Rejoice, let us give thanks, let us praise His Name. We are blessed indeed who know the Saviour. We remember the Mighty work of Calvery. We remember the blood shedding. "Behold the Lamg of God which taketh away the sin of the world"
There was no other good enough....................
In His Love

All of mankind, from Adam and Eve to this present day, has been cursed with self-centeredness, especially in the 21st century. We are slow learners and fast forgetters, especially in the so-called "civilized world" with respect to gratitude for help given to us. our theme is "What have you done for me lately?"

The answer, it seems to me, is to die to self (Gal 2:20) so that we can live in Christ. That is easier said than done since the flesh exerts so much influence in our lives.

All to often people forget how they got to where they are and who helped them get there.

I pray that Jesus will help us live by the Word of our testimony and that we remember all who the Lord put in our lives to help us along the way.

A short testimony of my own. About a year ago I went to a women's lunch at our old church. That afternoon a woman there who used to attend a prayer group with me at least 12 years earlier. She came up to me and said she had just left her husband in hospital. She needed to have a little break. He had been in and out of the hospital for a few weeks. He was having mini stokes and he was now in a coma. When she saw me she said, She just wanted to thank me for a card of encougement that I had sent her over 12 years earlier. She was going through some old boxes the night before and had come across it. She said, it not only encouraged her when I first gave it to her. It also helped her through the night before!!!
Isn't funny how the Lord let her find that card at just the time she needed it ... but that she saw me the very next day for the first time in many years. She thanked and hugged me.

I felt blessed.

Please when the Lord brings an old friend to rememberance please lift up a small prayer for that person. You never know what they are going through.

Thank you Stephen for this thread.
