[John 3:14 KJV] "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:"
[John 3:15 KJV] "That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life." ********** The serpent of brass was lifted up on a pole so whoever looked on it would live. Likewise whosoever looks upon Jesus and believes in him will live.

[John 3:16 KJV] "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
[John 3:17 KJV] "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved."
[John 3:18 KJV] "He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." ********* We read the cross into this verse, however, this passage isn't saying to believe in his death and resurrection for our salvation. To believe on him was to believe on his name. What was required for eternal life was to believe Jesus was Christ, the Son of God. ************ [John 20:31 KJV] "But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name."

John 3:16 is the paramount verse used for salvation, and you can use it if you like. I don't think it's the best verse for salvation.

i can find elements for our gospel in this passage. God loved us, and sent Christ for our salvation. We believe on him for eternal life. We believe Jesus is Christ, the Son of God, but just believing that doesn't save us. We have to believe Christ died for our sins and rose for our justification. We have to have faith in his blood.
