7 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.
8 Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;

7 This is possible if the roots of the stump are not removed. We can but cut down or hurt but as long as we are rooted in the Lord we can grow back up again.

8 Even at the worst the tree can still grow back up as long as it has its roots. We may get to the point where we don’t feel like we can grow anymore but if we look to Christ then we will grow up again. Sometimes God does His best growing when we are broken apart and only have Him to rely on.

If you are "rooted in the Lord", you won't depart from Him.
It is written..."There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." (1 Cor 10:13)
Look for the escapes!

I liked what you said, and I think that in order to really understand these verses, it's helpful to start from from...verse 3, was it it? I've already closed the Bible webpage. Anyway, I agree with what you said about roots. In the verses after 7, it talks about what happens with men who die and breathe their last. So for a first impression, I would say that it's talking about being rooted in the Lord as well as life after death...but I could be wrong. In summary, I think that it talks about those who are rooted in God stay with him, but those who are not will perish and have no second breath and no resprouting, if you will. Did I repeat myself? Probably.
