I muse a lot on Jesus' life before his crucifixion.
What about his first miracle at Cana? Why his reluctance?
Seems to me his mother Mary, the girl who found favor in God's own eyes, was the one that gave Him the "go ahead" to begin his ministry.
Theologians have many theories regarding this event but mine is based on, first, Jesus character...
He was the perfect God man, the source of the fruits of the Spirit. He was kind, gentle, meek, loving, humble and true.
I believe he was kind and winsome so I don't believe he was scolding or mocking his mother but maybe teasing her a bit!
She didn't seem to take offense but proceeded to instruct the servants to do what he said!

So when Jesus appeared to excuse himself from his mother's request for help over the wedding wine, Mary calmly overrode his excuse and told the servants to do whatever he said. This always puzzled me. But, consider that God Himself gave Mary the responsibility to raise his baby boy, teach him the scriptures and guide him morally and spiritually. Who or what else gave Mary the ability to raise this little God man? Could it be that because God chose Mary to mother His son he not only impregnated her by His own Spirit but his Holy Spirit also lived within her to teach her how to raise, teach, and prepare His son? A mere human woman would not have had that ability. (We have trouble raising human kids!)
Perhaps the incident at the wedding was the Holy Spirit, speaking through His own mother and mentor, Mary, to give Jesus the OK,
the prompt to perform his first miracle and begin his ministry?
