Hi Chad,
I just finished reading your article “Crucifixition of Jesus”. I had question concerning a quote that said: “The victim was often forced to carry his own crossbar, or patibulum, to the execution site. The patibulum could easily weigh 100 pounds.” I tried to ask the question in the thread but it wasn't permitted and I just needed to know.
Now this is where movies influence ideas. In all of the movies that I have seen about Jesus, he carries a cross – complete. No crossbar. So I just assumed that it was so. Even in the gospels, they said Jesus carried a cross.
So my question is – did Jesus carry a cross or a patibulum? God bless.
