It Takes A Big Man?

Gideon then crossed the Jordan River with his 300 men, and though exhausted, they continued to chase the enemy. Judges 8:4 NLT

Having defeated tens of thousands with three hundred men, Gideon demonstrated to his Israelite brothers that God can do great things with a small group of men.

In the story of Zacchaeus, a despised tax collector, Jesus demonstrated how He can use a man small in stature to show the transforming power of personal faith (Luke 19:3.

In the parable that follows the story for Zacchaeus, Jesus shows that even small amounts of money can be used to show a person’s true character (Luke 19:17).

A small group of soldiers? A small tax collector? A small number of coins? What value can these have to God?

They can show a world obsessed with great mythical powers, that the same God who is more powerful than any monster or myth (Psalm 74:13-14) often uses the “things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise” (1 Corinthians 1:27 NLT).

The small things in your life may be the very things God uses to show the world around you His incredible power. It doesn’t take a big man to change the world; it takes a big God.

Prayer: Lord, help me remember that You can use any small detail in my life today to change the world.
