I believe from what I am reading in Isaiah 4 that the branch spoken of in Isaiah 4:2 is Jesus. Notice, in verse 1 it seems to indicate that Israel will be going through a period of shame. This idea was also in chapter 3. But, then in verse 2 it changes pretty dramatically.
there is mention of the people being proud of the fruit of the land verse 2
those who are left in the land are called "holy" verse 3
there is a cleansing that takes place by judgment and through a spirit of fire verse 4 (the tribulation period?)
A canopy is created by the Lord over Mount Zion much like there was when the people were in the wilderness to protect them. verse 5-6.
Some questions come to mind is
1. Why is Jesus referred to as a branch? What is the significance of that?
2. Is this a reference to the millenial reign of Christ?
3. Would the reference to judgment and fire be the second coming or the tribulation period?
4. Is this idea of a canopy to be taken literally? Or is it symbolic of the presence of God?
I'm going to do some study on my own on these questions, but any input from some learned believers would be helpful. (At least I hope it will be helpful).
