Is the Christian walk supposed to be a burden?

After reading a sermon online about the glory of God, and how it should be our sole motivation in life, I am starting to feel like a burden is on my back, pulling me down. I believe I am saved, or at least, now, I only think I do; but the fact that we, as Christians, are supposed to do everything in our lives solely, and only, for the glory of God has really been bothering me.

Now let me be clear. It's not the fact that it's for God. I honestly don't have any problem with that, because I believe God is worthy of it. My problem is that we, ourselves, are supposed to completely and utterly not seem to have enjoyment in anything. If I desire to listen to music, I feel like I have to constantly think to myself, "Is it Christian enough?" or "Am I being idolatrous?" If a woman should desire to have a husband, out of the desire that God Himself put in her, she is only supposed to desire that husband IF her desire is only for God's glory. How can she enjoy her relationship with her husband if she's always thinking, "Am I loving my husband too much? Is my desire only for God's glory?"

It's just frustrating. Sometimes to the point where I can't seem to trust that God is really who He says He is. I've begged God to put His love in my heart, and to save me if I am not saved, but it seems like nothing is happening. I begged God to give me assurance of my salvation if I am truly saved, but, again, nothing is happening.

I'm just so tired. I have issues with obsessive compulsive disorder as well, so I've been wondering if that might be the cause. Either way, please pray for me.

The first thing God wants you to know is that He loves you and wants you to be joyful and happy in this life He has given you. You are His and created you He doesn't want you to be miserable or upset all of the time. He wants for you to be filled with joy and happiness. When making the decisions you were talking about you don't have to sit and question yourself because if there is something we shouldn't be doing we will always know because God will let you know through the Holy Spirit. It could be that still small voice or maybe just a gut feeling but one thing is true He will always let you know. We were made and live to praise Him and all that we do should reflect that. If God has put it into a woman's heart that she wants to marry then by waiting on Him and letting Him bring that man to her and eventually she marries then she is doing it for the glory of God because not only did God give her that desire, but rewarded her with a husband that He chose for her because she prayed and waited on God. Once she is married a woman lives her life for God's glory by being that faithful wife He has called her to be for her husband and the husband is to be the same toward her doing his best to care for her and provide as God has called him to.

To live for God's glory it means to put Him first in our lives and all the rest will fall into place. We know right from wrong and we know what God says in His word now we need to put those things we have heard and seen in His word into action and this is what it means to live for the glory of God. Life is full of decisions and we can either be upset and question every little thing we do or we can say " ok God on this day help me to live for you the best that I can and to seek your wisdom and guidance in any decision that I will make today." I will be praying for you Glow.

Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and hte peace of God which surpasses all understanding will gaurd your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Deuteronomy 4:29 But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek HIm with all your heart and with all your soul.

John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal and to kill and to destroy. I (Jesus) have come that they( my people) may have life, and that they (my people) may have it more abundantly.

Don't let satan steal what Jesus has come to give you my friend and sister. Jesus came so that we could live life to the fullest in joy and happiness that can only come from Him. He wants us to have life and have it abundantly. Keep on seeking Him and praying to Him. He will always guide you and let you know what you should do in the life you are living. God bless you.

Dear Sister,

My answer to your question is no. Christian walk (or walking with Christ in other words) is not a burden at all - 1 John 5: 2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome. The key word there is LOVE .

In fact the Scripture says "All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful toward those who keep the demands of his covenant." - Psalm 25:10. It will only become a burden or hard when we are reluctant to follow the Lord (LOL).

But in following, here are some great promises in Psalm 19. I love this verses. hehe

7 The law of the Lord is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.

8 The precepts of the Lord are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,

giving light to the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is pure,
enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm,
and all of them are righteous.


10 They are more precious than gold,
than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
than honey from the honeycomb.

11 By them your servant is warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.


If you notice Sis, the sole purpose of God's Word is for our own good, and yes of course in return, God is being glorified when we are benefited in them. Just delight yourself in the Lord dear Sister, God knows your heart. My prayer for you is this May the Lord Jesus Christ continue to reveal Himself to you and let you know and understand how wide and long and high and deep is His love for you, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:17-19. Amen

Thank you for the prayers. And I do, a previous friend of mine. Embarrassingly, an atheist. (I suppose that's a whole different problem in itself though.)

Thank you so much. That actually really does help. I've been fighting with flip-flopping from one thing to another, and obsessing. Sometimes I feel like I can't do anything, and other times I feel God's peace. It reminds me of the scripture that says that a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. How incredibly true that is for me.
 
And would you want to make your atheist whom you love be perfect in your sight to include being a godly man before you could love him? Is your love dependent on his perfection to your moral bar?

No, I love him despite it.

Although, is that what you're saying? That God loves me despite my being perfect? It's hard to grasp that sometimes, but I believe it I think.

It was because of our imperfection that Christ died for us, so that being flawed, we can still draw close to God and His love. Accept His love freely and understand His love for you is greater than any love you could have for another.
 
Thank you all so much for your prayers. Last night, I felt a deep connection with God that I haven't had in several months. He convicted me about the idolatry in my life with certain things, and helped me to get out of the wrong mindset. I am somewhat of a new Christian at heart, despite having been saved several years ago, so it's difficult to understand what exactly I am allowed to do sometimes, but God is helping me through it. I deleted all of my trance/dance music last night since I felt that it was ungodly, and uninstalled much of my music production software. Although, as I mentioned, I do have trouble with OCD, so when I woke up this morning, I was unsure again about whether it was okay or not and wondered if I had needlessly deleted it. Either way, the prayers have definitely helped.
