Is it bad to be computer addicted?

Nothing wrong with doing anything good as long as GOD is first. I think that's the simplest way to put. Also, not forgetting our family friends. Do we take precious time away from them as well? Something to consider.
I spend endless hours each day on the computer as I have to run my online business and this ministry. Even so, I still make sure (and try harder) that my time with GOD is there, Bible reading and family.

i would echo what Chad says and as long as you are reading good christian posts and communicating with like people who lift up the name of Jesus then that is a positive way of using the internet. I live with my cat and am not lonely as I have Jesus with me always. We can always talk to Him as He never slumbers or sleeps. He is never engaged or too busy to listen to us and we need to have open ears to hear Him talk to us too. I read the Bible online too. I love to read the different versions explaining it in different ways.

You ask is it wrong to be addicted to the computer. It's wrong to be addicted to anything because whatever you are addicted to, be it computer, television etc become like an idol to you and we are told in Exodus 20:3 “You shall have no other gods before Me."

There does seem to be a fine line between using the computer for Christian fellowship....and addiction. At least for me there is. I tend to be the kind of person to get into things a bit intensely. For instance, let's say I just started to read a new christian fiction book from the library. And I really like the book. So I think, oh, this is so good, just one more chapter. Suddenly, I've read 10 chapters, and I didn't get any meat out of the freezer to cook dinner with, and my husband is coming home in one hour!
It's a matter of balance. God should be first: Time spent with Him alone, praying, reading the Word, meditating upon His Word. Taking care of family, loving them and doing chores is next. Other people are important also, but the Word says if we don't take care of our own family, we are worse than a derelict. (I think it's in the book of Timothy?)
Only God....truly satisfies!
It doesn't matter how many times I visit talkJesus a day, if I'm not in fellowship with my Lord, then I'm not content. Jesus is the reason....for talkJesus....so I have to keep Him in first place in my heart.

This is a balanced thought, I feel. For this to be true in our lives, Jesus needs to be in His rightful place... as our King.

When I first went online I became almost instantly addicted to the Internet. I went from being a guy who lived on a little ranch out in Fresno county (my nearest neighbor was 5-miles down the road, the nearest city 26-miles away), who only had his dogs, a few temperamental cats and assorted other critters to talk with, to someone with the world at his fingertips. With a few clicks of the mouse I could discuss the latest news with someone in England or Israel. Instead of the local newspaper, I could scan newspapers from Moscow, Jakarta, Cape Town, or Cairo. It was just so overwhelming that I spent every free moment online. So much so that I would forget to cook dinner, clean up around the house or mow my lawn. Friends could never reach me because my phoneline was always plugged into my PC (I had AOL). Everybody started getting mad at me.
It was my mom who told me that my Net addiction was really a bad thing. That got me to thinking, and I forced myself to walk away from the Internet completely for months. I canceled my AOL service, boxed my PC up and just forgot about it.
And when I came back, I had licked the compulsion to spend all of my time online. Now that I care for my sister and am paid to do so, I spend a lot of time at home. So in the typical day I may be online 3 hours max altogether. Which is still a lot, I guess. And I have insomnia (since childhood), so when I'm awake in the wee hours I'll come online and whittle away some time at Christian forums or reading newsboards.
I think anything taken to excess is bad. Especially if you get in as deep as I was, basically forgetting to take care of yourself because you don't want to step away from the PC.

I suffer the same addiction, although i don't need it i just get bored at home after doing home worked, which mind you i need the PC for, how ever my addiction as such is not found with christian forums and such it's playing games online, IE: Warcraft III Frozen Throne, not WOW; world of Warcraft, and other MMO's, Horizons, how ever in my RPG's :horizons: i do speak God to the people in my group who do not believe so i guess being addicted to doing that is good isnt it??? my other games should not be mentioned on a Christian sight as it refers to the Enemy's name, so i guess that's a Problem, but i do get a little Side tracked and forget about God and more on the PC, i don't think that it can be idolism though as said on the first page i think it's more about what Seventh seal said,

i guess i got a problem with that then, how can this be helped?? do i just ignore my Pc games, and only do homework, or do i spend more time on it battling with God about what's right and wrong?
