Is being slain in the Spirit biblical?

It is my opinion that we should not try to keep God in a box. I have never been "slain in the spirit" but that does not mean that God can not use that to bless those who have been.

God does not have to always have a yellow jacket sting your ear to heal an ear infection like he did for me.. (long story)

My point is that God is awesome and He can use what ever he wants to bless His children. We will be judged by the standard we judge others. I would advise giving lots of grace and mercy and not dogmatic condemnation of other's experiences.

Let's all become fans of mysticism while we're at it. Where do we draw the line? Mysticism is at the very core of many Christian's lives. It isn't new. It was even that way in the days of the New Testament.

No, God is not placed in a box. However, if it is not in Scripture, I am not about to say the experience was from God. Scripture is my only litmus test for Truth. Nothing else is an acceptable substitute. Because there is zero foundation for being slain in the spirit, I cannot, in good conscience and faith, allow myself to entertain the notion.

Yet one can know an apple exists whether or not he has ever seen one. I have never seen a duck-billed platypus but I know they exist. I have never seen a dragon yet I know they do not exist. I have never seen Jesus yet I know he existed. I have never seen Santa Claus yet I know he does not exist. However, I do know the man the idea came from did exist at one point in time. Experience is not the same as knowledge nor is it an essential part of it.

In this sense, I can know being slain in the spirit is not a Biblical concept. It was born out of an experience and the concept has only grown and mutated from there. It is strictly extrabiblical. The verses used to support it are clearly speaking of fear for that is exactly what it explicitly says. When one thing is explicit and one if implicit, if they seemingly contradict each other, the explicit explanation always wins.

Your views seem have jaundiced your concepts here. Spirit filled believers do seem to have a fuller experience with the reality of God's Word and it's promises. It is after all only by revelation of the Holy Spirit that we can understand even a Word of those scriptures as the author (God Himself) meant it.
That does not make them better, or more important to God. It simply means they are walking places others have not yet gone and of course others may be walking where they have not gone yet. The rapture is not a bible word but like being slain in the Spirit it is indeed a biblical concept. as is the Triune God.

You my friend are very wise.:shade:
A long time ago a brother of mine taught me to "put something on a shelf" when I did not understand it. Later after prayer, simply growing, and maturing in Christ it made more sense. I have always found that to be good advice and I try to make it a practice not to tell God what He cannot do!

Mysticism?

You quoted my post, so what about my post has anything to do with mysticism? (nothing)...

Yellow Jacket stings to heal an ear infection are not in the bible, yet that was the means by which God healed me (after being obedient to scripture and having someone I considered an elder pray for me).

My point is: who is to judge the experience of another? And belittle, condemn and equate with devil worship (mysticism) the experiences of another?

As I recall, the pharisees judged Jesus' miracles as being by the power of the devil (beelzebul). He rebuked them severely. (Mark chapter 3).

If the scriptures are your "only litmus test for Truth" then you are ignoring the scriptures instruction.

He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world at large cannot receive him, because it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him. But you do, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. John 14:17

When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not be presenting his own ideas; He will be telling you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. John 16:13

Ok Rojoloco, you think you are an authority on every subject you speak on,you think, you are the only one who has true knowledge of what the Lord does and intends. When you fall, which you surly will, please remember that your pride caused this, and repent.I thought, my fault for thinking!! That you had some understanding on the Lord, but all you want to be is a judge of something you yourself have never recieved, and because you have not recieved any anointing from the Lord which is clear to see from me,I will not be reading any more of what you write,so go ahead you keep on judging without having all the facts,it is sure is what you are good at.I do not say this out of hatered!! I say this because as an older Brother in the Lord you should know better.blessing.

Daniel 8:17–18 (NIV)
17 As he came near the place where I was standing, I was terrified and fell prostrate. “Son of man,” he said to me, “understand that the vision concerns the time of the end.”
18 While he was speaking to me, I was in a deep sleep, with my face to the ground. Then he touched me

Daniel was dreaming while sleeping and this happened to me several times. Then I would wake up and write what I saw.

We saints who had to become sinless before we could received the knowledge of God had to go down on the ground while God changes our genetic sin traits to stop the power that makes us sin. This is a very painful process because it's like having surgery. I cried deeply during this procedure all eight times.

My point was not about whether you were speaking of it or not. It was about drawing a line in the sand. The excuse of putting God in a box is nothing more than that...an excuse. Mystics can use the same excuse. Actually, anybody can use that excuse. The line I draw is the one found in Scripture. If it isn't there, it isn't going to be incorporated into my theological system of beliefs. If we are to accept whatever people claim, we might as well accept mysticism.

My point is: who is to judge the experience of another? And belittle, condemn and equate with devil worship (mysticism) the experiences of another?

Judge ALL experiences by Scripture.

As I recall, the pharisees judged Jesus' miracles as being by the power of the devil (beelzebul). He rebuked them severely. (Mark chapter 3).

They also did this because they knew where it was coming from. In fact, their own children were performing signs as well. This is why he asked them about their own kind. They saw and knew in their hearts yet still rejected so your analogy does not fit here.

Everything the Spirit tells us will be in accordance with the revealed Word of God.

You know why I can speak with authority? It's because everything I teach on is rooted deeply in Scripture. Scripture is my foundation for all my belief and all my teachings. (2 Timothy 3:16).

It isn't that I have full knowledge of everything the Lord intends. However, I do not entertain extrabiblical ideas that are not found in Scripture. If it is in Scripture and I choose to speak on it, it is only because I have devoted many years to deep study of it. I'm ready to give a defense (1 Peter 3:15).

But on the flip side everything we think the scriptures are telling us are not necessarily in accordance with HolySpirit, many of the Jews follow the scriptures today yet they ignore the HolySpirit and the same is true with many of the micro kingdoms within the Christian religious institution.

The scripture plainly and clearly instruct us to be led by HolySpirit. Look at what Christ tells all of the seven ekklesia in Revelation chapters 2 & 3.

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Notice that Christ said Spirit and not scriptures.
