Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if [there is any] wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24 NKJV

Many men aren’t comfortable sharing their hearts and their most private thoughts with others, even with their closest friends and loved ones—even their spouses. Some of us don’t see opening ourselves that way as a “manly” thing to do.

David may have struggled with sharing himself with other people, but in the above verse, he demonstrated a willingness—even a passion—to invite his heavenly Father to search his very heart and mind and reveal to him his anxious thoughts and sinful ways.

This is a picture of a man who wanted true intimacy with God, the kind of intimacy that invites Him to know about everything inside him—the good stuff and the bad stuff alike. That’s because David knew that the Lord wanted to lead him in “the way everlasting.”

God calls you to that very same level of intimacy with Him today. When you accept that calling, you’ve taken an important step toward a whole new level of closeness with your loving heavenly Father.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for knowing me so intimately and for inviting me to share my heart and my thoughts with You. May I never hesitate to open myself completely to You so that You can forgive my sins and heal and cleanse my heart.
