Go, inquire of the Lord for me and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah about the words of the book that is found. For great is the Lord’s wrath that is poured out on us because our fathers have not kept the word of the Lord, to do according to all that is written in this book. 2 Chronicles 34:21 AMPC
It wasn’t the first time a king asked for repairs to God’s temple. Nor was it the first time God saw evil in the hearts of His people. Another good king stepped up and proclaimed that God’s house was open once more. Josiah was eight years old when he became king. He was eager to make God famous among the people.
King Josiah had heard God stories, but hadn’t read them for himself. Very few had. When God’s words were found in the abandoned temple, the king had them read. Josiah was brokenhearted. He could hear how far the people had strayed from what God had actually commanded. Josiah knew why God was angry.
God has given instructions for right living. How many of those instructions are overlooked, rejected, or left unread and unknown? God wants you to endure. He will help, and He wants you to be fully aware of what you’re enduring. How meaningful is the act of enduring if you don’t know what you’ve endured?
Prayer: Father, help me know what I’m enduring so I can be grateful for Your help.
When I know what You want, help me do what You’ve asked.
