The LORD will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed. Psalm 41:3

If there's a fire in your home, you put your trust in a fireman. If your electricity is out, you'll trust the linemen. If you're sick, you trust a nurse to help you feel better.

You might remember a parent or grandparent who took care of you when you were sick. Maybe they offered medicine, cough syrup, or chicken soup. They wiped your nose or made sure they had enough tissues. David may have had something similar in mind when he referred to God as a nurse who stayed with him when he was sick. God is compassionate, understands what you need, and can be trusted to make sure everything turns out right.

Maybe you've thought of God as regal and kinglike (and He is), but that mental image can make it hard to see Him as having the tenderness to take care of you better than the most compassionate caregiver.

Seeing God as compassionate can be one of the most effective ways to help you trust Him to help in the struggles you face. You could have a health issue. You could be facing a job loss. You might need the care God provides for those in the midst of broken relationships.

Prayer: Dear God, knowing You can provide such tender care is welcome news. I'm grateful for the help You provide, because I need it.
