Then Elijah the prophet wrote Jehoram this letter: "This is what the LORD, the God of your ancestor David, says: You have not followed the good example of your father, Jehoshaphat, or your grandfather King Asa of Judah. 2 Chronicles 21:12 NLT
God was not shy in calling sin sin. It wasn’t a mistake or lapse in judgment. Sin was an act of rebelling against His authority.
That’s what was happening in the verse above. The prophet Elijah sent word to King Jehoram that set the record straight. This king witnessed a good example in his father and grandfather but ultimately rejected what he saw. Jehoram was forging a new path that left God out. This king was in rebellion.
You’ve read the word rebellion several times recently. It is often an outward display of an inner wound. Something happens inside the mind, heart, and spirit long before the choice to rebel. Festering wounds stink, they get noticed, and they’re unattractive.
Maybe like Jehoram, you need to recognize the wound and then allow God to deal with it. The infection that has permeated every part of your life can be evicted. New life can be delivered. Hope can be restored.
Prayer: I don’t want to live with long-term wounds, God. Help me see You as the only One capable of dealing with my spiritual and emotional wounds. Deal with any rebellion You find in me, and draw me close once more.
